Chicago Fire: Season 1

Now one of my favorite shows
ORIGINAL REVIEW from when series first started: This has been a fun show to watch, just to see some of the calls and situations to which they respond, but a lot of what they do both in the firefighting and the EMS part just doesn't seem very realistic (I am both a firefighter and paramedic). I know different parts of the country do things differently, but if I did some of the things they do on their runs, I would probably get fired. That said, it is still fun to watch, and some of the characters are interesting. What we really need is more episodes of Emergency!UPDATE 5/6/19I have been watching this show since it started, and it has become one of my must-watch favorites. My earlier criticism of the realism has vanished. Allowing for the fact that his is a TV show and not a documentary, the show does a very good job of making the calls seem realistic. Of course, you won't find too many real firefighters jumping off buildings into a river to escape a fire, or paramedics doing a Pericardiocentesis in the back of a moving ambulance, but I am quite surprised at times on just how accurate they try to be. A good example is when the paramedics on the show mention that the patient is in some abnormal rhythm, and that actual rhythm will be on the cardiac monitor. This is certainly NOT the case on many medical programs. This attention to detail does not extend to the other two prominent firefighter/EMS shows on TV right now: Station 19 and 9-1-1. Station 19 got so bad I had to quit watching, and most weeks I am not sure why I still watch 9-1-1. On that show, I once saw them trying to give Nitro to an unresponsive patient with a systolic BP of 80! When I saw that I actually yelled at the TV "NOOOO." Having been a T.O. for several new paramedics over the years, I guess my instincts just kicked in when I saw them about to kill a patient. But, back to the topic.....If you like interesting drama, with a reasonably realistic fire/ems setting (again, allowing for dramatic license) then Chicago Fire will fit the bill. And it doesn't hurt that they are based in station 51.

Best Show On NBC In Years
If you're a fan of classic shows like Emergency, Third Watch, or the recently canceled SouthLand I think you'll like Chicago Fire. This show has likeable interesting and diverse characters, gripping stories, suspenseful moments, and it's funny at times too. Something I really appreciate is how story lines don't drag out for ridiculously long periods of time. Problems are solved in a timely manner, something doesn't come up on episode 5, get ignored until episode 13, and end up poorly solved on episode 19. The writers know how to get things done on this show! It's a refreshing change from procedural BS and the semi-procedural shows that try to add a serial element but fall short.I can honestly say I like all of the characters and actors on this show. Of course with any new show it takes some time to appreciate them but one I settled into the show I really liked everyone. Maybe it is a bit soap opera-ish, I've heard people say this but it's not like people are coming back from the dead, have evil twins or are constantly in the middle of paternity disputes. There's just a lot of drama in the characters lives, but that's part of what makes it interesting! These characters have lives, unlike the bland people on the procedural BS shows.Season 1 of Chicago Fire was very entertaining, can't miss TV. Season 2 has been just as entertaining and I'm sure I'll be adding that to my collection as well. If you'd prefer a more police focused drama check out the spinoff, Chicago PD. Now let's hope NBC is smart enough to keep this around for a while.

Great series
I started watching this series only after its spin-off, Chicago PD came on this season, and only because they had cross over episodes and I felt I needed to see Chicago Fire to keep up. I am so glad I did.I remember those old shows about firehouses and EMTs and found them kind of cheesy back in the day (bored sexy women getting their toes stuck in tub faucets and the like) This is a totally different animal. The fires, rescues, and EMT calls are fascinating and compelling. The cast is mostly beautiful. I was in a near-fatal collision with a drunk driver in 2008 and the fire men used the jaws of life to rescue me from my crushed Jeep. The firefighters were wonderful and helped me keep calm, but I can honestly say none of them looked like the guys on this show. And the emergency part is only half of the show. There is a lot going on with the characters, whose lives we get a glimpse into, relationships among the characters, and the cross over with Chicago PD, which means characters from one show often pop up on the other show.I love this show, especially considering it didn't look compelling enough to draw me in when it began last year in season one, which is unfortunate because it's really a good show.If you like cop shows, you would probably like this show. It has the same excitement, but instead of cases and criminals features different exciting emergencies each episode.

Nice content on a bad disc
After fighting through bad discs in several NYPD Blue seasons it appears "here we go again". Disc looked O.K. but wouldn't play all of an episode. The subject matter does fall more "female friendly" as there is romance, a fire, a boo-hoo event, some interpersonal stress, a fire, etc. The wife loves it and I remain adequately entertained.

Be warned....it is addictive !
I had to buy this as I watched Chicago PD, which I loved, on TV and there was a crossover episode including the Chicago Fire cast. I gave SKY up a couple of years back due to the cost so had not seen any of the Chicago Fire series. Bought this and was so hooked had to buy the second series as well. Very good cast, well balanced, good story lines some of which I believe are based on actual rescues undertaken by the fire services. I know they are coming to the end of series three on US tv so cannot wait for that to be released on DVD.....have to admit I have cheated and gone onto the NBC website to see who survived the final episode of series two...not giving anything away....watch it !

Great Present for my Parents.
Chicago Fire Season 1 on DVD was a great gift for my parents, it's not even been 2 days and they've watched so many episodes I'm looking at ordering season 2!If you like the Law and Order series, Chicago Fire is another Dick Wolf special, great catching story line that travels from episode to episode, whilst following the Chicago Fire Department on their day to day adventures.

Nail biting stuff!!
I bought this box set just to give it a try after reading good reviews and I have to say I am addicted to it- so much so that after just watching the first few episodes i purchased seasons two and three so I could binge watch them all one after the other! Excellent story lines, some nail biting episodes, good acting from all, and some hotties, which is always a bonus! I love how they have crossed over with Chicago PD (which I have also purchased!!) definitely recommend this series... Can't wait for season 4 to be released!

Brilliant series including the lovely Jesse Spencer from neighbours originally
Brilliant series including the lovely Jesse Spencer from neighbours originally. Shows just how things can change in real life in a short space of time, this series i think gives a realistic view on the problems that can tackle anyone during life, but don't get me wrong this is not based on real life and is a fictional series but is great to watch
