Review: Setting Combination Could Have Pitfalls - I have about six of these locks, and they are reliable. However, the last lock I purchased had an issue. Set the combination according to the directions; now the lock does not open with that combination or the default combination. It is useless, and I did not find out until after the desertcart 30-day return policy. However, I emailed the company, ABUS, and they have sent me a new lock. The process was painless.
Review: Dials move free and numbers are big - Got this to replace my Master outdoor lock for my patio gate. This is much better with larger number and the dials move free without jams. What I like best about this design is the dials are by the side of the lock instead of bottom like many other locks. With the dials by the side there is no need to turn the lock upside down, making it easier to dial in on the numbers, especially when you need readers like me.

**Q: Is it still possible to acquire the code with a needle or is this issue fixed?**
A: I use mine outdoors where it has accumulated so much mineral residue that there is nowhere to insert a needle, but it still opens and closes just fine.  I don't know if you could bypass a clean lock with a needle.

**Q: Why did abus use a 1970s design that can be decoded in 30 seconds with a magnet??? was going to buy, but not so sure now wth.**
A: Didn't know that but if it's true it wouldn't have changed my buying decision because I don't believe this lock or most any other is much better than a deterrent. I wanted something that would hold up to bad outdoor weather and take thieves at least a few extra minutes to think about whether they wanted to risk the extra time. It's done its job so far--needs graphite once a year or so because it gets rained on for a few months every year.

**Q: I can't find a combination for this lock or instructions on how to set one.  Please help, thanks.**
A: It has been one year since setting the combination but you must have the lock open and then insert a pin down the hole for the shackle so that you can then reset the password of your choice.If you cannot open the lock then you cannot change the combo. If the lock is open then you need to have a pin to reset the code.

**Q: Security level?**
A: my 4 dial padlock lasted only 3 years due to being near the ocean. it was fairly secure I had to replace it with a 3 dial one which is not as secure.
