Wool, Needle & Thread 2: A Project Companion Book for Wool Stitchery
G**Y
Basically this is just a wool pattern book
I'm disappointed in this book.As the front cover states, this is a project 'companion' book so as a result, it doesn't stand on its own. I loved Lisa's first book "Wool, Needle & Thread" because it was predominately a technique book and was chock full of how-to details with great close-up photography. This new book, however, is a pattern book that refers you to the first book for everything from preparing the applique pieces to how to work the decorative embroidery stitches and everything else in between. (RANT: I don't know if you are like me but I've always hated quilting books, for example, when you are reading along and they tell you to go to some other page to look at the quilt they are referring to. By the time I go to that other page and look at that quilt, I've gotten out of the mind set of what I had been reading earlier. Then I start reading again and once again get referred to a page latter in the book. I HATE that! and that is exactly how I felt with Lisa's new book.Of the 15 projects in the book, my first reaction was "meh." The only project I would like to make is "American Flag Mini" (10.5" x 10.25") which is a basic little red, white & blue flag that is adorned with a different embroidery design on each of the 13 stripes using the same color thread as the stripe. And, yes, you are referred to Lisa's first book to learn how to make each of the embroideries.Lisa uses fusible web to adhere wool shapes (Yes, the first book states that.) to the background so applique shapes that are provided with each project (not on tear-out pages) are shown in reverse. All projects utilize Valdani threads. As is normal for Martingale Publishing, instructions are thorough (as long as you don't mind being referred to the original book) and the photography is exceptional. The book only has 64 pages. If I were offered purchase do-overs, would I buy this book again? I hate saying it since I'm a fan of Lisa's work but ... No, I wouldn't buy the book.
