Brutal honesty here...I wish for a multi-probe, Bluetooth thermometer for grilling while I stay inside the house during inclement weather. That being said, this is my second one of these. The first one lasted about 4 years under constant, nearly daily use. The braided shield on the probe finally broke from being flexed too many times and it would no longer give readings. I tried to get a replacement probe, but found it more economical to simply purchase a whole new unit. I love the way it works. It is extremely accurate, and I WON'T COOK MEAT WITHOUT IT! I also use it for other stuff besides meat too. I use it in my conventional oven, in my Air Frier, and on the BBQ. I can get meat cooked to perfection every time. I can be sure it is fully done, while not drying it out and having to chew burnt leather! I use it for timing boiled eggs. I set the temp for just below boiling (205 deg.) And drop the probe in the pot of water and eggs. When the temperature alarm goes off, I set the timer to accurately time how long the eggs are boiled. That makes for perfect, consistent hard boiled eggs every time! The price of this unit is lower than any others that I have seen with similar features. When I consider how much food it has saved me from ruining, it is hands- down, the most valuable tool in my kitchen!

Compramos este termómetro pensando en utilizarlo para verificar la temperatura de nuestro horno, ya que es de esos que no tienen grados sino números. Cual fue nuestra sorpresa cuando al leer las intrucciones dice que no se debe utilizar para eso, el sensor debe ir siempre enterrado en la carne. Además, no puede ser utilizado en el asador, porque no puede exponerse directamente al fuego. Una vez que lees las letras chiquitas, el termómetro funciona perfectamente. Lo utilizamos para parepara el pavo en noche buena y funcionó perfectamente, sacamos el horno cuando el termómetro lo indicó y tuvimos un pavo jugoso y delicioso. Tiene termperaturas predeterminadas para distintos terminos de carne y cerdo y además un timer para cocina. El cable no es muy largo pero es suficiente para cocinar en el horno.

This is a "bare bones" temperature instrument but it will deliver solid results for many. many years.

What a disappointment. I had the 1470 previous model and loved it. The drawback was the long curved probe was difficult to position some times in a slow cooker. So I ordered this 1487 with a short straight probe. After working twice, it started registering 50 degrees F high. I put in my old long probe using the old temp gauge and it registered the 153 degrees that my lamb shoulder should have been at 3.5 hours. Meanwhile this one's alarm was beeping at 199. What junk. Of course it is too late to return it. I took it to Asia with me. **UPDATE** I contacted the Taylor Canadian distributor Springfield Instruments Canada about the one year warranty. They said because I bought it from Amazon I had to contact Taylor USA. Taylor USA offered to replace the unit BUT ONLY SHIP TO USA ADDRESSES. So effectively the warranty appears also worthless. **FURTHER UPDATE** Amazon Canada after learning of my problem re warranty immediately offered me the choice of: A. Replace unit, return original at their cost, 2. Refund purchase price, return unit at their cost. I am impressed. Amazon's customer service is outstanding. This particular product, from a reputable company we have trusted in the past, is suspect.
