SwinglinePaper Trimmer, Guillotine Paper Cutter, 15" Cut Length, 25 Sheet Capacity, Glass, ClassicCut 1525G with EdgeGlow (G7010006)

I bought this to cut cardstock and mixed media papers for handbound books. It has worked great so far - accurate cuts, light is convenient. I do wish it had measurements on the vertical side as well.

Item: ClassicCut w/EdgeGlow 12" Cut Length - 15 Sheet CapacityOut of the box this cutter was completely unable to make cuts ~1-2cm in width. It just mangles the edge and tears it near the top. The paper gets mashed and damaged, but not cut along the rest of the length. I've purchased $20 paper cutters that could cut more accurately and smaller sizes than this. For $80 this is completely unacceptable.Also the edge glow is not a line or anything useful. It just makes a piece of plastic above the board light up. The edge of the plastic doesn't stand out and isn't discernable. Even if it was, it's not useful as the edge of the plastic is 0.5-1.5mm away from the edge (not a uniform distance!) and can't actually be used as an accurate guide in any way.Total gimmick product on every level. Very sad to see this quality of product from Swingline; the brand used to mean something.

On dry and/or "crispy" paper this works well, if the paper has been exposed to moisture it tends to tear instead of cutting
