Perfect for the fan or casual reader
Michael B Smith has put together an excellent book, for fans of the Allmans, or anyone with an interest in these musical pioneers. The strength of this book is the way it combines, historical fact, opinion and interview to hustle the story along without flagging. The author is clearly not just a fan, but a superbly researched authority on the subject, having conducted first hand interviews with the protagonists. This has something for everyone, the casual reader, or the student needing quotes, on a band which has soaked into our musical history. The Allmans were the best. This may well be the best book yet on the Allmans.

A treasure trove of information by the king of southern rock journalists !!
For full disclosure MBS the writer, is a friend of mine but he did not ask me to write this review. This book is a great source of information on all the ABB's albums and all the members of the band over the years and includes interviews MBS did with the key players and a vast array of other useful information. As Chuck Leavell said in his foreword this is truly the bible of the Allman Brothers Band.Michael Buffalo Smith has been a writer and historian of Southern Rock since the 1970's and literally knows or more properly knew everyone in this genre ( so many of them are dead ). He actually met Ronnie Van Zant and other LS members in Greenville, SC on what would turn out to be the last night of Ronnie's life. No one knows more or cares more about this southern music including the ABB than Michael. Any ABB fan would find this book an invaluable source of information about the band.

ABB Discography
I did not feel the story line was quite as engaging as other ABB books I have read. This read more like a chronology of their albums. I got through it but it was just meh...
