Not up to the usual standard
I have been an avid reader of all of the Shakespeare novels and thought they were fantastic. This book was a very poor read with lame characters and a disappointing story line. Shame.

Gripping spy novel, strong plot
Hitler’s Secret by Rory ClementsRating 4.4/5 ****.4Hitler’s Secret is the 4th in the Tom Wilde series. However, it’s the first I have read and I can assure you it works as a stand-alone but I will be looking to read the previous books in the series.A grippingly, strong and believable plot which also emphasises that even Nazi Germany wasn’t a safe place for many Germans.Well developed characters, good and evil brings give depth to the plot. The cleverly wording gives the reader the sense of fear and struggle, betrayal, power and greed.A good and satisfying read, definitely recommended. Thanks to Rory Clements, Zaffre and NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read this gripping novel. In return I have written an honest and unbiased review.

tense and engrossing
A tense and engrossing thriller. I've rather liked Rory Clement's earlier Tom Wolfe books but 'rather liked' is a bit tepid. This one is absolutely gripping. There's all the excitement, action, fear, violence, cruelty, clever intrigue and chases you could wish for but this (the fourth in the series) has heart. It's not as simple as including more women than usual and a main character who is a child. Rory Clements shows Professor Wolf's protective tenderness and feelings of helplessness in a way we haven't seen before. In fact all the characters, 'goodies' and 'baddies', come to life more as we hear snippets of their back stories and understand a little of why they do what they do.As the action stretches across western Europe and Britain, the writer manages to achieve a real contrast of the different countries. In colour, weather, scenery, language, clothing and manners. Against this background his very individual characters stand out and are memorable - this is not one of those stories where you lose track of too many similar characters.

A secret that could save the west
Or maybe not.In any event an American teaching at Oxford prior to America’s entry in the war is recruited by the brand new OSS to travel to Germany and retrieve a package. The don is not told much about his mission or his evil enemy Martin Bormann. Somehow he carries it off and only then does he learn the hows and whys of mission. It’s fast paced and at times totally credible. Don’t miss it.

Great book
I've been a big fan of Rory Clements work for some time and timed my reading of the previous book in the Tom Wilde series so that I completed it and could move straight on to Hitler's Secret when it was released. This era of history is fascinating, the descent of many normal people in pure evil beings and the fight of so many brave people to stop it. I think the books capture how I imagine the period to be, and the hero of the novels is a very "likable" character even if he is a bit too good to be true!I really enjoyed this book. I enjoy blending real-life figures of the era with fictional creations in an imaginative story.

Another Rory Clements good read
Partly fact and partly fiction makes this book a good wartime thriller. Like his other wartime books you as a reader are transported with the main character a Cambridge academic to spying and finding out the truth.

High quality wartime thriller
A fantastic thriller. Thoroughly believable and enjoyable. Wartime Germany feels very real and Tom Wilde's Nazi enemies feel very real too. probably the best book in an already excellent series. Look forward to reading more.

A rip-roaring read set in Nazi Germany. At times the tension was so high I couldn't wait to turn the page. Can't wait for the next of Tom Wilde 's adventures. Impeccably researched characters and events - creates a real sense of the fear created by the Nazis and it's impact on ordinary people.

Book slightly damaged.
Although the packaging didn't give any concerns regarding its content, once opened it was noticeable that the book cover was actual slightly damaged , didn't spoil the read though, but just a shame.
