It's a Zombie Apocalypse and the End of Death.
Calliope Reaper-Jones, the President and CEO of Death Inc. is an immortal but her days are numbered. She didn't want the job in the first place so naturally after discovering she has a knack for running the Corporation her arch-nemesis, Marcel, returns to collect on a promissory note. Callie is sent to Antarctica to pay up and it could, literally, cost an arm and a leg. Oh.. and her head! You see.. Marcel AKA the Ender of Death is skilled at his job too: eliminating the Grim Reaper.Preparing for the worst, Callie instructs her assistant, Jarvis, to place their loved ones and the three potential "Deaths" under protective custody, via a magical barrier, at Sea Verge. This doesn't sit well with Clio or Daniel, both determined to find out what's going on and help, regardless of the danger involved.Meanwhile, strange things are happening at Corporate Headquarters; the Harvesters and Transporters also seem to be MIA leaving the recently departed to their own devices wandering aimlessly on earth. Callie faces her greatest challenge yet with more at stake than her job and immortality. Failure for the young CEO will put the entire Corporation out of work -permanently.The final installment in the CRJ series is told from various perspectives which I found refreshing. There's continued character development for the whole gang with several intriguing surprises. Detective Freezay returns and Callie's childhood friend, Noh, joins the ensemble -much to my delight! (I highly recommend picking up a copy of Amber Benson's middle grade book "Among The Ghosts" to read more about Callie's charming BFF.) As for all the new characters, we're given enough background on each to get a good feel for who they are, or were as the case may be, and where they might be placed in the After-Life Realm. Clearly a lot of heart and soul went into every aspect of this complex story.Far from a typical urban fantasy with the perfect hero or heroine who readily accepts what they are and always makes the right decisions, Calliope screwed-up.. a lot. She resisted and even flat out refused to accept her destiny. With the support of Runt, Clio and Jarvis she learned from her mistakes and grew into a confident, admirable young woman ready, willing and able to take charge of her birthright. But is faith and determination enough? Will she keep her head and save all of humanity or die trying? This time, no one is safe as the body count rises higher than ever!I've been thoroughly entertained from the moment Callie took that fateful bite of magic filled cupcake. Originally a trilogy that expanded into 5 books, The Golden Age of Death marks the end of an extraordinary hero's journey. I won't dare spoil the grand finale and risk my own head getting chopped off, but I will say it was balanced, poignant and I was left with a deep sense of contentment. This has been a fantastic, crazy ride that, along with thrills, chills and laughter, provided food for thought on Life, Death and whatever comes After. I'm getting back in line for another go!

OK
The story was a little boring. There were too many characters, if the names had been a little more diverse it would have been easier to keep track of them. There was a lot of boring conversation from boring characters.

Benson does it again!
The latest novel in the series does not disappoint. While Callie is getting the hang of the whole being death thing, there are still plenty of twists, turns, and curve balls thrown at her to keep her a sympathetic character. While she's becoming a better hero, she's still very relatable and you keep pulling for her through the whole book. I've loved every book in the series and can't wait for the next one. What trouble will Callie find herself in next?!

Just couldn't finish it
I didn't even care how the book ended. I tried to read it but just couldn't do it. Each chapter jumped to a different person and I didn't care about any of them, except for Runt, of course. I didn't read the ending but it had to end with the the main character's survival or the series would be over. There was no tension in the book because the plot was so ridiculous and transparent. The talking tuna was a nice touch. Seriously, I'm not reading any more in this series.

Loved it.
Think this my favourite book in the series so far. The perspectives from the other characters made this story more entertaining and complex. Just disappointed that I am out of books in the series to read and need to wait for a new one.

Darker than the others
This is by far the best in the series. Much darker than the others, there is a greater depth to the characters. The plot isn't as tight but it is made up for in the cast appearing in the novels. It is good to see that there are some real sacrifices made on the part of the characters in order to move forward.
