Skeeve and Aahz visited Aegis with Samwise. Their dimensional hop brought them into the dark interior of the tomb of Waycross. Getting out of the tomb was rather strenuous, but finally they all emerged into the bright and hot day. The environment was much like the Bazaar on Deva. The natives mostly seemed to have animal heads and feet, but some looked like Klahds. On the way to his office, Samwise showed Aahz and Skeeve the shining white pyramid built by Diksen. In his office, Samwise explained his prior experience and his brilliant financing scheme. He also renewed his sales pitch on memorial stones and hooked Aahz on taking a top stone. Aahz claimed that he wanted to leave a legacy for the future. In this novel, Skeeve is a Klahd from the Klah dimension. He was an apprentice magician in Klah, but has grown in skills and reputation under Aahz. He had originally started M.Y.T.H., Inc., with a few friends. Aahz is a Pervect from Perv. He is big, green, scaly and has four inch long teeth. He is a fearsome sight, but is also Skeeve's mentor and friend. Bunny is also a Klahd. Now she is the president of M.Y.T.H., Inc., Skeeve's former position. Everybody in the company acknowledges that she is doing a great job. Tananda is a Trollop from the Trollia dimension. She has green skin and hair and a very voluptuous body. Tanda is Chumley's little sister and an assassin. Chumley is a Troll and the brother of Tananda. He uses the persona of Big Crunch with strangers and outsiders. Markie is a Cupid from the Cupy dimension. She looks like a young Klahd girl, but is fully grown. Now she is a contractor for M.Y.T.H., Inc., working fulltime in undercover jobs. Emo Weavil is a Tipp from the Tipicanoo dimension. He is running for Governor of the island of Bokromi. Wilmer Weavil-Scuttil is also a Tipp and Emo's cousin. He is also running for Governor of Bokromi. Ecstra Talkweather is a Tipp reporter for the Morning Gossip, one of the fifteen newspapers on the island. She is pretty, with gleaming golden-brown fur. In this story, Skeeve is being hounded by the press. Soaring to the ceiling, he finds a web of spiders. He is trapped between the two threats. When the practice is over, Bunny invites Skeeve into her office to hear the next caller. Markie is already there and Aahz and Gleep accompany Skeeve. Emo wants to hire the company to ensure a fair election. The M.Y.T.H., Inc., workers get the usual impression of a politician: oily and creepy. In his resonant voice, Emo says he only wants a fair election. Bunny convinces Emo that M.Y.T.H., Inc., will only work as mediators to keep the election clean and honest. Emo agrees to her terms on the condition that his cousin also agrees. So Bunny and Skeeve visit Wilmer. Ecstra is within the office interviewing Wilmer when they arrive. After Wilmer agrees, Ecstra takes them to the Morning Gossip office. A political rally is taking place outside. The editor in chief is sitting by the door watching the rally. He explains that it has been five years since the last election. The politicians in Bokromi must agree on a date for the next election and one or the other keeps putting it off. Meanwhile, no one can issue government contracts to pickup the trash or for anything else. The natives are getting restless. Both sides start mudslinging, throwing gray glop. They also throw rotten vegetables at each other. The newspaper is shielded, but Skeeve inadvertently moves out of the shielded area and gets plastered. Skeeve starts flinging the smelly stuff back at the originating side. He flies up out of their range. Then flying police officers arrest him for mudslinging without a valid party card. Tananda doesn't want to have anything to do with this job, but Chumley goes along. The M.Y.T.H. staff meets with both parties in a neutral place, a meeting room within the Hotel Tippmore. Bunny only allow the candidates, campaign managers and three staffers into the room. Skeeve wraps the room in magical wards as shields and soundproofing. Somehow the magical wards are broken and the mudslingers break into the room. Skeeve raises new wards while Aahz and Chumley throw out the party hacks. Finally, both parties agree to the M.Y.T.H. terms, but they have a condition. Aahz has been openly rude to both parties and they agree that he has to go. Aahz vents loudly and transits back to the Bazaar. This tale teaches Skeeve much more about politics than he ever wanted to know. Both parties mutually agree to inflate the number of events. The debates are filled with hot air and evasions. Bunny is getting very frustrated, but Skeeve controls his temper. Aahz returns to the fray in another role. The next installment in this sequence -- Myth-Fits -- has not yet been announced on desertcart. We had fallen in love with Skeeve, Aahz (no relation), Tanda (or Tananda), Chumley, Gleep, and everyone else. So, after another year or so (and another visit to our local bookseller), Dad came home with MYTH ALLIANCES (not to be confused with Myth-Alliances ), and it contained MYTH-ING PERSONS, LITTLE MYTH MARKER, and M.Y.T.H. INC. LINK. We laughed our way through this one as well, so we decided to become Asprin junkies (pardon my attempt at a pun). Over the next few (or maybe seven) years, my dad and I got to read and discuss MYTH-NOMERS AND IM-PERVECTIONS, M.Y.T.H. INC. IN ACTION, and SWEET MYTH-TERY OF LIFE. We decided that they were all fantastic, and we couldn't wait for the next story to come out (this was especially due to the cliffhanger ending of SWEET MYTH-TERY OF LIFE, which involved our second favorite character). In the years between SWEET MYTH-TERY OF LIFE and MYTH-ION IMPROBABLE, we passed the time by reading a couple of books about a Phule and his company. These were great stories by Asprin, but we wanted more MYTH books! We wanted resolution! Time passed. Dad passed away in 1997, so I didn't get to hear him rant about how MYTH-ION IMPROBABLE fell into the timeline (it was book eleven, but it took place between books three and four) after the long wait to find out what had happened after the last book. (Of course, he would have eventually embraced the story, then held his breath for the main story to continue in the next book - SOMETHING M.Y.T.H. INC., just as I did, but I digress.) Asprin included an introduction in MYTH-ION IMPROBABLE which explained that he had (and I may be paraphrasing) lost the feel for the characters, so he basically wrote a lesser tale to warm himself back up for his grand finale: SOMETHING M.Y.T.H. INC. Well... the stories were never quite as much fun (to me) after SWEET MYTH-TERY OF LIFE, but I've kept on reading the series and... it's good again now! Honestly, it never got bad - it just wasn't as fun as the first ten books, but it was still entertaining enough to keep me (and many others) attached to the series. MYTH-FORTUNES was the point where I found myself enjoying new tales of my 'old friends' again. MYTH-QUOTED was the first newer book which really felt the same as the previous ones, which I had enjoyed so much. MYTH-FITS has completely sucked me back in! It seems like the author had as much fun writing this one as I had reading it, and that (in retrospect) was what I believe was missing up until now. Thanks, Jody Lynn Nye! I can't wait for the next one! Great gift

The old magic is back
The series has always been enjoyable but after a little transition time I think it is back to the level of the original works. In this book, the characters feel familiar but fresh, and there was a great balance of foreshadowing and plot twists. Two minor annoyances (personal taste): 1. Mudslinging metaphor waaaaay too much. It seriously could have taken a couple of dozen less pages, which would have been great to use for... 2. Bunny's family problems. Wow, it must be a pretty big deal, but not even an ominous cliffhanger, just a "Meh, no big deal" and end story. Oh well, i guess in the next book that will get sorted, but it really felt epilog worthy, but just ended up seeming unfinished somehow. Still well worth the read and it makes me happy to see the franchise in good hands.

Jody Lynn Nye and Robert Asprin collaborate well. This book captures their enthusiastic and effective writing style and presents another fine addition to the Myth series. The plot is general strong (well, as strong as any for this series) and the book is an enjoyable read. Unusually for a book from this stable, at times I felt the pace flagged and ideas were a bit thin on the ground (hence the three stars). But overall it was a great "throwaway" read. I am not a better man for having read the book. It will not change the world or anyone's view of the world. But it did raise a smile - and occasionally even a chuckle.
