A slightly lesser, but still powerful follow-up to End of Grey
As a hard rock fan, DD is a band I somehow overlooked during my teenage years. Coming back to them in my late 20s, I have rediscovered what I had truly missed. While I think this album is a slight drop from the band's 2006 release, there is great variety of hard-hitters and ballads. Moreover, Crash has my two favorite Decyfer Down songs of all time: Crash (#1) and Now I'm Alive (#2, only available on digital version) . I give this album 4.4/5, which rounds down to 4. Here is a quick take on each song from my perspective as a musician and as a drummer of 17 years:Crash (2009, 4.4/5): Critique Focus: Tempos and Dynamics1. Crash (5/5): 108 beats per minute (BPM), fortissimo (average dynamic) | Title track, 1st Favorite Decyfer Down song2. Desperate (4/5): 124 BPM, mezzo forte3. Fading (5/5): 88 BPM, forte4. Best I Can (5/5): 82 BPM, mezzo piano5. Ride with Me (5/5): 132 BPM, fortissimo6. Wasting Away (4/5): 83 BPM, mezzo forte7. Over My Head (4/5): 140 BPM, fortissimo8. Moving On (3/5): 73 BPM, piano9. The Life (5/5): 94 BPM, fortissimo10. Forever with You (4/5): 70 BPM, pianissimo

Good, but you will miss Caleb Oliver's vocals
If you are new to Decyfer Down, just buy this album. You will love it. Excellent writing, terrific performances, this is still one of the top Christian rock bands in the world. If you are a DD fan, you will miss Caleb Oliver on vocals. TJ Harris is a good singer, but Caleb had a unique sound. If Caleb sang with another band, I would instantly spot his voice. I could name you thirty rock singers that sound just like TJ. He's a great singer, really strong vocals, but he doesn't have that uniqueness to his voice.By the way, there was a Crash EP released last fall with Crash, Best I Can, and a third song Now I'm Alive that didn't make the final album. These were sung by Caleb. If you want to compare Caleb's version of the title song with TJ's, track down the EP. I'm glad I bought it when it came out. I feel like it's a collector's item, sort of.This album isn't as hard edged in its sound as End of Grey was, Decyfer Down has some change of pace songs here with a lighter touch. But it's still serious rock, they're not turning into a pop rock band. Not yet anyway. Despite my hurt over Caleb's leaving, I still recommend this band to you very much.I would've rated this album five stars, except for the lead singer change. Buy it.

Really talented guys, Excelent Lyrics, overall great rock
For me its not about religious music, its about music and looking for God in everything my senses feel, and these guys really rock, the music overall is really something different, specially on the times and lyrics, which really reflects the love and relationship with GOD.I've just recieved it form my PO box, I have already heard it, but I really wanted to make things good, and stealing music is one thing I wont be doing. Living for GOD is more than a choice, its a desition and it should be reflected in everything we do. I am not perfect I know, no one is, but as song #4 says, I am doing the best I can. Hoping more people can find peace in their hearts and good advise by listening to this album.Remember the purpose of this is to help us, everyone to reach Jesus, then as he is the only one who can reach us to God, then find God while holding his hand.Well, i am really happy with my purchase, greetings and blessings from Guatemala.

Little originality to be found here
This is an easy one to write, so I will be short. If you are looking for something new, fresh, inventive, of great quality and musicianship, stay far away from this one. If you want generic, common, sounds-like-stuff-you've-heard-before, this is right up your ally. This album has little originality to it. It sounds exactly like what Nickleback, Creed, Three Days Grace, ect, have already done. To be fair, there are some good songs ("Crash", "Fading"), but there are moments of lackluster songwriting ("If you want to scream, ride with me" from "Ride With Me" and "Never could find a true reason to pass through this season, now I gotta move on and survive, till I find the life" in "The Life"), and as previously mentioned, the music is a carbon copy of sounds heard before.End of Grey is the better album by far. This will be my new textbook example of a "sophomore slump" album. I have hopes that the next album will be better, because there is no excuse for no progression and carbon-copying. I'm not bashing these guys personally and I know that they are Christians with a heart for God, but their witness will be magnified by how they handle the next album. The Christian market does not need to feed off the secular market for sound and ideas; it should lead the charge with fresh, inventive music that the secular market respects. This album, however, does not do that.

Crash, life's trials, the album...
This is my first time listening to Decyfer Down, and I must say, I totally enjoyed it. They also stand for something I believe in, Christ. But they don't shove religion down your throat, but rather share their experiences through music and how Christ had gotten them through the moments in question. Their sound as similar to bands like Thousand Foot Krutch, Pillar, Red, and even a lil Puddle if Mudd. I like their range of music and look forward to more material from them in the future.

I miss Caleb but TJ is Good too
I ordered this album mainly because I am a hard core decyfer down fan. I do think that Caleb's would have fit better in these songs than TJ's but then agian most of them were written for Caleb's voice and was later converted to TJ. But I highly recommend this album it was a great release from a great band.

One for fans of bands like Shinedown....
Fantastic album! Catchy, crunchy songs with great vocal melodies...I'm always looking out for bands that sound a bit like Shinedown and these guys are the closest thing for me so far...have bought their other albums which are great too, 'Crash' is definitely the best though
