Didn't see that coming. Very well written, none of the smut felt forced and created more then a few nights of me and my other half using a highlighter. Thanks.

A darker read than I would normally enjoy but, still, it was good enough for me to pre-order the next one, especially with the huge cliffhanger at the end!!We have Alex, trapped into a life beyond her control, living in fear of her step-brother, Zach, who has abused her since she was a teen. We have Rafe, who has just been released from eight years imprisonment for a crime he didn't commit. They love each other but it's tainted by what has happend to them both. Both have dark natures. It was quite a gripping read and I'm looking forward to the next one. However, I really hope it's the conclusion and the two lovers get their HEA and Zach gets his comeuppance!

Well I am never quite sure if I can say I enjoyed a book like this that is centred around violence and abuse. It's certainly would not be suitable for readers who are sensitive to these issues. But I found it a gripping read, and it kept me turning pages. Ended with a cliff hanger. I downloaded this book for free, was definitely worth reading, would I keep reading the next book? Yes, am I desperate to pay for and download the next instalment? Not really.

I downloaded this book for free and am voluntarily reviewing it because it is a compelling story and love/hate,We have Rafe Mason, who had been a rising star in the fight circuit and Alex de Luca, the stepsister of his sparring partner, Zach. We join Rafe, Alex and Zach eight years after one lie sent Rafe to prison for a crime he did not commit. This is the story of the aftermath.It is a dark story, speaking of revenge/retribution/love/hate all twisted together to create this compelling series. It is explicit, but crafted in such a way you want to more and see where the story goes - and hope they all get the outcome they deserve. The flow was smooth and the dynamics of the characters make you feel you are getting to know and understand their standpoint in the situation. I hope the Rafe and Alex get a happy ending, after the cliff hanger of this one!!!

This was very dark and at times very hard to read. The writing is very graphic and explicit so not for the faint hearted or those who are easily offended. It deals with raw emotions and abuse which just makes it crazy alex actions against rafe. Very unexpected ending not sure if i can read on but this book was gritty and well written.

I found this to be a rollercoaster of a read.The storyline is intriguing and the characters even more so. They are very well written and I was instantly drawn into the twisted 'relationship' between Rafe and Alex. There are plenty of steamy sex scenes, but the elements of imprisonment and sadism is not for everyone.I found aspects of how Rafe treated Alex quite uncomfortable, although understandable due to what he went through.The ending really took me by surprise and i was keen to see what would happen in the next instalment

I enjoy erotica and BDSM but this didn't do it for me. This is a quick, short read, and Gemma James does have a fluid writing style. The premise of the book appealed but at heart I prefer the story to be about consensual exploration of needs and desires and this one isn't. The lead characters are both damaged by their experiences and histories of abuse. The revenge scenario felt too unreal and the ending was one step too far in terms of credibility. I didn't feel any emotional connection to the characters, they remained characters rather than people and I was left not interested enough to find out what happens next. The story is not concluded in this volume which I do find irritating. I am not against series of books or story arcs running over different volumes, but I feel short-changed when the main story isn't a stand alone book. I know that others have really enjoyed this tale. I didn't.

I downloaded this book for 3 reasons. 1 - it was free on kindle. 2 - the story sounded interesting and different to what I normally read and 3 - it was a 4 book series all of which are available. Really big plus as I hate waiting months for a follow on book. Once I started reading it that was it, could not put it down and 2nd book in the series was downloaded even before the first was finished. It might not be every ones cup of tea, in places very explicit, but hey you are warned this at the beginning and as the 1st book is free you have nothing to lose. Well worth the read.

This is a dark and yes dirty book, if you have triggers you might not want to read it, one thing I don't like about it is; it has a cliffhanger (my personal pet peeve) all in all this is a fantastic book and I'm excited about the next one 5 stars!

Considering my first time reading a book on this genre, I found it intreasting.. A story that takes you to its world..

Wow! This is definitely a different kind of romance. Very dark and graphic scenes. This was a first read of this author and i loved it. I cannot wait to read more from her and more of this series.

That piece of crap can rot in hell for all I care. That guy is evil with a capitol E. However, his evilness is what makes this tale that much richer. What would a messed up, filthy, terrifying story be without an excellent villain. Zach is it! To wrap this up, it's provocative, it's terrorizing, and it's brilliant. It was so gripping that I could not put it down for the life of me! The characters were so powerful and the storyline so profound and tragic. The dialogue flows with simplicity and feels exceedingly natural. The pacing is perfect, fast in fact, which I appreciate as I couldn't get submerged into this one fast enough.
