they are swing arms. I use mine instead of lower kitchen cabinet doors. They are attached on the one side, with fabric hanging from the rod in front of the cabinet. I found the bolt must be tight so the rod does not droop, if it does put a CUP hook to hold the other end up. Better to make sure the rod is tight. Hope this helps
