Good quality leather, evenly scarfed and correctly textured.
Experienced strop user, adding a second strop to my sharpening arsenal.Made an oak (1" thick to elevate surface to allow knuckle clearance) and MDF (for a super flat and even surface to back up the leather) sandwich-block and glued the leather on rough side down as this strop will be the final, fine polish step. A little compound, and really, really razor-sharp knives and chisels result in only a few strokes. This is a thicker and better surfaced leather than usual, and the 12" length is super. Tip - If you moisten the surface lightly with mineral spirits before applying the compound, it will go on easier and more evenly. The mineral spirits will evaporate pretty quickly and will leave an even layer of compound behind. You don't need a lot - and it doesn't need to be 100% covered. I used a favorite compound, not the two shipped with this, so review is about the leather, not the compounds.

Just as pictured and expected
I use this product to sharpen my woodcutting tools. I’m still a beginner at sharpening and this strop is now part of my tool set.

This is a great honing method!
My passion (obsession, some say) is sharpening things. I own several very high quality straight razors and strops I love to use daily. This little item is a great idea for a convenient touch up and honing to maintain a perfect edge on my razors. It works great to hone edges I put on knives and make them REALLY sharp!

Good to keep a sharp edge on knives
I use a knife a lot in my work and I keep them sharp. This strop allows me to put a sharp edge on a knife.

Good value
Product is great. The sizing of the leather and thickness was just what I needed to make my own custom strops. Good value. Will buy again when the need arises.

Fake Leather
The material is not real leather. Under magnification, you can see a very thin lamination on top and bottom of material. The core is a different color. This is a very crafty method of production, but will not perform or last like real leather when used for tool sharpening.

Good Strop
The media could not be loaded. Aright sooo, this is a good strop. The photos and video will show the back of it and any discoloration is from me being stupid and trying to rub oil on it. When I first got it was one even color as was the top. Not the same as the top but like any other good piece of leathers flesh side. The video is of me edge beveling the back of this strop using Tandy’s edge beveler (the one that’s on here #2 for like $10 and also works great btw) and I had sharpened that beveler using this strop right before filming the video and beveled that edge with it. And this thing sharpened that beveler perfectly so…(Sorry the video is actually for the beveler but I didn’t feel like making another one). Anyway, the leather is of good quality. My only complaint is the wax doesn’t seem to be the greatest but, full disclosure, I’ve never bought wax for stropping so it could be great and I just don’t know. The reason I don’t think it’s great is it seems to be too hard to apply. But maybe all stropping wax is like that? Idk but either way you can apply it and it DOES sharpen knives, chisels, skiving blades ect just the way it was intended to. I didn’t buy it for the wax I bought it for the strop. I wouldn’t be able to live without it now that I know what it does honestly.
