I've only used it as a tie on for visibility for my child, it's pretty sturdy though, I'd think if you took care of it it would work well. This is our 2nd year using and it has held up perfectly.

The dry bag is a separate layer on the outside of the float. It’s pretty tight when inflated, but I can get my phone and keys in there.

I threaded the strap through and used the black plastic piece at the end to keep it from sliding through
