I had bought a 257 cast iron pump a few weeks ago. I was very satisfied with it. A friend asked me to help install a sump pump and I bought the 237 accidentally. I didn't realize that these two were different. This 237 is aluminum - obviously won't rust. I don't know whether its is better or not than the cast iron 257. Both pumps are extremely quiet and seems to work the same. I did research sump pumps. Local stores didn't have too many options for a pump, made in usa. There was one other pump, made in usa - which is sold as wayne, campbell, rigid brand names but several people complained about the failure of its switch. It's "genius switch" failed but I read a press release from its ceo that their new "iswitch" is rated for 1 million cycles but... How are we supposed to know which switch is being used on the pump we buy? That's why I decided to buy liberty pumps. No one seems to complain about this liberty brand. This is an extremely quiet pump. Even within 5 feet, you won't hear the pump running. Also, I have a suggestion for installation. 1. You need not drill a 1/8 inch pilot hole - as suggested in instructions. Pilot hole causes splashing. Both pumps are working fine, without this hole. These pumps have a built in bleeder hole system to avoid air lock. 2. Buy a 9" rubber coupling. This is 9" long has actually comes in a way that it would work for both 1.5" and 1.25" diameters. It was available only at ACE and not at Menards or HOme Depot. This makes the installation easier. Its has not been easy to get a perfect fit, with new install. You might as well change the valve - if it is really old (I bought Zoeller). If you put a new valve, the lengths change. Its a pain to cut the correct length. Therefore just cut the pipes to be within about 3" fitting and use the 9" coupling. Remember to use faucet grease on the inside of the 9" coupling and the outside of the pvc pipes - so that they slide in and out easily. But don't use faucet grease for fitting of the zoeller valve (it makes the couplings pop out when you tighten). Of course, you should use the grease on all threads - in the pump and onto your pvc threaded coupling.

This is the quietest sump pump I have ever had the displeasure of installing. The pump is great...the fact that I needed to install it is the displeasure part...lol. Very high quality and about the same price as the box store 'growling nightmare' that I had to purchase initially to abate a flood. I also purchased an AY McDonald 4420-465 2069 1 1/2 Silent Sump Check Valve and a 1 1/2" ABS to 1 1/2" threaded adapter for ABS pipe attachment to the pump itself as it comes shipped with female 1 1/2" threads .... this combination of pump and silent valve leaves sump pumping noise as a thing of the past. My sump is directly under my sun room seating in my low crawl space and I really did not want to hear it at all while sitting and enjoying my morning coffee. Did the trick...virtually silent.

Fantastic pump made in USA. Yea, a little bit more expensive but quality and worth it. What more can you ask for. Also was shocked how “Nice” this looked….I know its just a pump but it is really nice looking. Almost a crime to drop it in the pit! Previously had a Zoeller that lasted 10 years but was not easy to get as that model is discontinued - so I went on the hunt and found this, was an easy retrofit. Stated looking at a Wayne as the delivery was quicker and also USA mfg, but they void the warranty when used with well or water softeners so that was not a good sign of durability. This liberty unit like the zoeller is well built, and uses a plastic base and SS hardware so it better resist rust. A full cast iron base will rust more quickly, so wanted to avoid those models. Did not even consider any of the junk sold at HD, low quality china built “house brand” units at similar prices that do not live up to the warranty claims. …comments are clear they die quickly and your on the hook to send a 25lb box “somewhere”….just not worth the hassle. Anyhow installed easily, works great….my new favorite pump brand!

Ordered this pump as a replacement for the pump inside my Liberty 403 unit. I was able to make it work, but I had to make minor modifications to the inside of my 403 container so it would fit and work properly. Otherwise happy I did not have to replace entire 403 unit.
