The packaging was secure, and the toor dal arrived in excellent condition. The lentils are fresh, clean, and high quality, with no dust or broken pieces. They cook evenly and have a great texture — exactly what you want for sambar, dal, or any everyday recipe. I use this brand regularly, and the quality has been consistently good. You also get a generous amount for the price, making it a great value. Definitely recommend this to anyone who uses toor dal in their daily cooking!

This arhar dal is polished which is supposed to be less nutritious than unpolished dal as some of the nutrients are lost during the polishing process. That is why I deducted one star. Rest seems fine. Of course it is much more expensive in the US than in India. The company must be making huge profits in US by selling polished dal at this price.

Update on Feb 28th, 2024 (5 Star rating): After my post on 2/22/24 (see below), the folks from Rani (brand name manufacturer) contacted me and, after several emails and photos, refunded my purchase due to the damage during shipping. It seems Amazon is the shipper, and customer service from Rani are pursuing the case with Amazon. I want to acknowledge what Rani did. I am happy with this resolution. Original Post on Feb 22nd, 2024 (1 Star rating): Don't Buy: Item has flimsy packaging and received completely damaged, and no return or replacement allowed. Shameful, it is like throwing your money away from a good brand name Rani.

I like ordering Rani foods. They’re always good quality and fresh. The Toor dal is great.I live near no Indian grocers and the only way I can be assured of getting quality Indian foods through ‘mail order’ is a company I can trust. So Rani it is.

Good product. Not too much dirt and particles or stones found in rinsing. Makes tasty dal. Price is right, and I don’t have to go to Queens NY to get it.

Very old! Of course there's no way I could tell they're old until I cooked them. When I cooked them, my Indian summer stew should've taken only an hour to make. Sadly it took all day long just to get these peas to soften at all. Even now after making my batch of soup and freezing it and reheating it, the yellow peas are a bit al dente. And yes, I rinse them and soak them overnight before preparing. I will not buy products from this company again. I will stick to my local organic grocers.
