Scholarly reference for Orellana's journey down tha Amazon
This is a collection of documents relating to Orellana’s journey down the Amazon, primarily Carvajal, and his failed return. It was published in 1894 and translated in 1934. Start with Buddy Levi’s River of Darkness. It is semi-popular, but has the basic facts and is clearer and faster to read.

Excellent
Written in 530AD it is an excellent documentary of a boat trip down the entire Amazon River to the Atlantic Ocean!

Very interesting book for people who want to know about the Amazon region in the 16th century and the peoples/civilizations who lived there.

Scholars only
The 40-page version of the voyage down the Amazon as given by Oveido was mildly interesting. The rest is a bunch of tedious academic drivel. The editing, the translation and presentation of the material was stunningly precise and meticulous. Too bad the material is totally inappropriate for the general reader.A general reader would be better off reading the Wikipedia article about Orellana's voyage. Nothing much happens on the voyage anyway except endless classes with the natives.
