Entering a windowless room, an Invigilator gives them eighty minutes to answer one simple question. He outlines three rules they must obey or be disqualified: don't talk to him or the armed guard by the door, don't spoil their papers and don't leave the room. He starts the clock and leaves. The candidates turn over their question papers, only to find they're completely blank. After the initial confusion has subsided, one frustrated candidate writes 'I believe I deserve...,' and is promptly ejected for spoiling. The remaining candidates soon figure out they're permitted to talk to each other, and they agree to cooperate in order to figure out the question: then they can compete to answer it. At first they suspect the question may be hidden in their papers like a security marker in a credit card, and they figure out ways to change their environment to expose the hidden words. But light, liquids and other plans all come to naught. Soon enough, the candidates begin to uncover each other's background, prejudices and hidden agendas. Tensions rise as the clock steadily descends towards zero, and each candidate must decide how far they are willing to go to secure the ultimate job . . . Very captivating movie!
Exam has been one of the best movies I've seen in a while. It held my undivided attention & interest from start to finish! I also really enjoyed that the ending and overall plot was unique in comparison to the vast amounts of generic films that are popular these days. The ending was not overly predictable... I was able to enjoy the mystery of it.

Best original movie in years
Proves you don’t need CGI and overpaid actors to make a good movie

It does get points for originally and kept up a decent suspense on first watch.
It was worth it the first time. But not much re-watch to it. Still I'd say rent it and give it a watch, i saw part of it while scrolling on a different system then really needed to see the whole thing. Great job of building suspense and nice surprise at the end made for a good payoff. But really works a lot better the first time when you don't know any more than the characters do.

I enjoyed it.
wow. A very thought provoking movie. I can't say more, for I have been left speechless. :)A lot of people who would love this movie, probably never get to see it because its improperly categorized into the Shudder subscription and the cover picture is also misleading. I went into this thinking it would be a disturbing gory movie, but it was something else entirely. I enjoyed it.

We were never able to even get this movie to load/play and ended up buying it on another streaming service. Complete and total waste of money.

Wrong region code - DVD will not play in Canada.
I bought this DVD on amazon.CA (CANADA). The movie can NOT be played in Canada (UK region - wrong region code). Yet, that IMPORTANT information was NOWHERE to be found on the advert. I am VERY disappointed.

A test of character
How far are you willing to go to get this job? That seems to be the question posed of our protagonists. Eight in all, sitting in a room in front of eight desks. These desks are empty apart from a pen and a sheet of white paper, the only information on the paper being the candidates number. An invigilator enters the room, quickly spells out the rules of the test and then leaves as quickly as he appeared. The eight candidates have eighty minutes to work out the question posed by the invigilator. They also have simple rules to adhere to, but it soon becomes apparent that as some of the candidates have a great deal riding on the job, the solving of the puzzle soon becomes secondary to psychological mind games, and even worse torture. This brilliant British thriller, set not in the future but 'soon', proves that you don't need big explosions and excessive violence to make a film exciting. All that is needed in fact is a fiendishly clever script, a cast of good actors, and a talented director to put it all together to make a satisfying whole. The 80 minute 'exam', shot in real time manages to squeeze every little drop of tension it possibly can out of the situation, and the fact that the script doesn't reveal its hand too early, rather giving the audience subtle little clues as the film progresses, makes for an enthralling viewing experience. Borderline science fiction, but also doffing its cap to the increasingly dog-eat-dog world of reality television, Exam manages a very difficult feat indeed. After over a century of films, in which Melies has taken us to the moon, Hitchcock to the edge of our seats and Spielburg on magical journeys back into our childhood, it is still possible for a film to come along and astonish and entertain in equal measure. Well it did so for this viewer anyway. Essential viewing. 5 out of 5
