I've had these saddles/aprons on a couple of chooks for about a month now, because of no feathers left on their backs from constant rooster attention towards their two favourite hens. The aprons were easy to fit and the girls had no problem quickly getting used to them. They actually seem quite proud of their aprons! The hardest thing was catching the chooks and keeping them still/calm, then the fitting was easy, but I did read the instructions well and played with opening and closing of the clips etc beforehand. I used the standard clip stud fitting first (there is a size adjustment system). One chook needed hers tightened (clip moved to a different stud) due to slipping off one wing after a couple of weeks of wearing it, she's been fine since then. I forgot to insert the optional soft black plastic 'wings' that came with the aprons, but found I haven't needed them anyway (the 'wings' seem to be for stopping the apron from sliding sideways out of place, but I recommend initially trying the apron without them). Occasionally the rear end of an apron is turned upwards after a night jostling on the roost, but then it ends up back in the correct position on its own during the day. Their feathers are starting to grow back properly under the aprons, which is great because I was a bit concerned the tips would continue to be rubbed off. So I'm very pleased with this product, even the colours are nice. A big thank you to the designers and manufacturers.

You can tell this product was developed with a lot of attention to detail using only top quality materials. I am extremely happy with this purchase. The instructions to fit onto the chicken were perfect and the saddle does not bother her at all, she is now protected from the others who were pulling her back feathers out. I purchased a cloth protector from a local retailer for the same price and it was nowhere near the quality of this product, nor did it fit her well or keep the others away from her and returned it same day. I will be purchasing this product again and highly recommend it. Very high Quality Product!

I love these saddles, good quality, stay well with washing etc. Hens didn’t seem bothered from second one. Never lost them. Sadly however as i breed Orpingtons the sides of the saddles aren’t low/ long enough. I still got horribly slashed hens despite everything i do ( dremel roo nails and spurs, seperation, big areas, lots of hens per roo). Ill try adjusting them for next season. But am secretly hoping these guys will make a new model for big birds and I’ll just buy those.

I didn't realize these were not to be worn all the time and as a result my hens got a severe case of lice because they couldn't dust bathe on their backs. I didn't notice how bad it was getting because I couldn't see under the saddle. I only realized because my hens started loosing feathers on their chests and tails. I think they should do a better job of warning buyers about the potential for lice and mites when using the product. Besides the lice, the product itself is very high quality and it fit all of my different sized hens perfectly. Would recommend for short use but not for extended periods of time.

Ordered 3 of these a while back and have been waiting to leave a review as I see how they performed. These things do what they say - protect the hens from “aggressive” rooster “encounters,” haha! The girls wearing them got used to them relatively quickly. They do stain easily. I think every single one of mine has been pooped on (by chickens) and left a stain. I didn’t do anything special to try to get them out - just some dish soap, water, and a scrub brush - so, perhaps some other solution would work better - I just didn’t feel like treating them with a bunch of chemicals. The stains are really irrelevant anyway - my girls aren’t out there trying to win any beauty contests - they help protect the already beaten up backsides of my 22 hens from my 2 roos. I will say that if you are putting them on a hen that is already closer to the bottom of the pecking order that may get picked on more regularly, these may only exacerbate the situation. I placed the red one on a hen that got picked on more often, and many of my chickens and guineas began chasing her around incessantly, pecking at her. I ended up removing it from her entirely in order to spare her. I have been meaning to put a different color on her in order to see if that makes a difference (since they peck at all red things), but haven’t done it yet. The red saddle I have is currently on another hen and has been for many months, and she does fine. On to customer service - one of my saddles shipped without the shoulder protectors. I contacted them and they refunded me the price of the saddle and told me to then purchase the larger pack of shoulder protectors, which was just a touch cheaper at the time - so, I essentially received a discounted saddle and a free pack of shoulder protectors for my “trouble.” Overall, an excellent customer service experience, and I would, and have, recommend this product and company to others. I need to order more, actually!
