Navitas Cacao Powder Organic, 16 oz

I grew up on and raised my own children using Hersheys powdered cocoa, as did my mother and grandmothers. However, after recently reading about the toxins found in multiple brands of chocolate (including Hersheys!), and over-20 brands of cinnamon, I searched for brands that will not put toxins into my grandchildren. I cannot do anything about all the chocolate candy out there, but I can control what I make and feed to my grandchildren. Navitas Organics Cacao Powder was one of the few, if not the only, brand tested that does not contain a toxin. It is carried in the granola-style grocery stores. I ordered it from Whole Foods via Amazon. It is high-quality. I have baked with it and made pudding with it and it is delicious.

I was hesitant to purchase this when I saw some of the reviews that the cacao was overly bitter. However, I have not found that to be the case at all. This cacao powder is no more bitter than any other cocoa powder (I am not talking about the kind with sugar that you use to make cocoa; I am talking about the kind that you typically use in baking or if you want to add your own sweetener -- like me). I add this powder to my smoothies in the afternoon and use a bit of maple syrup (not too much) to sweeten it. It works like a charm. This powder has a good amount of iron and other nutrients, so you are not eating "empty calories." I am a convert. If you are a cook and looking for a cocoa powder for any kind of baking, I would recommend Green & Black's Organic Cocoa Powder over this powder -- hands down. Green & Black's is a treat -- would probably make amazing brownies, stellar torte, nice chocolates.

According to a 2023 Consumer Reports testing program ("A Third of Chocolate Products Are High in Heavy Metals, CR's Tests Find" - October 25, 2023), Navitas cacao powder had the lowest levels of lead and cadmium among the cacao powders they tested. I am giving 4 stars instead of 5 because there are a couple other brands of cacao powder that taste better. I've used cacao powder daily for 20+ years in my coffee and have tried about a dozen different brands. After reading the CR article, I will be sticking with Navitas. [Several years ago Healthworks sold the best-tasting cacao powder; nothing else since has come close. Used it for a couple years. Then one day they changed the packaging and I also noticed the powder didn't taste as good. And the Healthworks cacao powder in the new package was also lighter in color and more brown, whereas the original Healthworks was darker and redder. I miss the old Healthworks taste; no bitter aftertaste that ALL other cacao powders have to some degree. ]

I choose Navitas brand Cacao because it is great tasting and lower in contaminants.

This is outstanding cacao powder that is non-alkalised, which means it’s better for health. This is a rich tasting cacao powder that we use for EVERYTHING including hot chocolates daily, smoothies, oatmeal, and baking. We don’t buy any other.

I gave up chocolate years ago because I love it TOO much and have no willpower. I used to eat it till it was gone. I resigned myself to the fact that I had to wait till I got to heaven to eat it again. I have been raw/vegan for a year now and have discovered I can use the raw, organic, vegan cacao powder in recipes and I have no issues with it. Raw cacao nibs are also okay for me--who knew? Navitas Naturals makes excellent products! Everything I've tried from them is wonderful! My favorite way to use this cacao powder is in raw/vegan ice cream recipes. Please look up “lead safe mama” and her lab results on this product. It contains high amounts of lead. This brand does not provide any third party testing of heavy metals on its own. Not a trustworthy brand. Shameful to knowingly harm people’s health

Hello! This is the best chocolate powder! The flavor makes it worth every penny. I used it in smoothies, baking, any place where the recipe calls for chocolate powder. It is more expensive than other powders, but it is also vegan and raw.Vegan is appreciated because I like honoring a business that honors life and raw is supposed to be better for me. Unsure about that, BUT, they very clearly take care that their powder is comprised of the best product and it shows in the flavor. Oh - if you add this to a smoothie - you should plan on adding some sweetener. Thanks!
