Story-telling perfection
This, for me, was story-telling perfection!!! ❤️At almost 600 pages it isn’t a quick read, but Puzo takes this story at a gentle pace, with a warm and intimate tone...making it a far easier read than I was expecting.Puzo takes the time to build characters that you are so intrigued by that you can’t stop yourself from turning pages to learn more. The book shares the same story with the Godfather, and Godfather II films...the key difference being that the book provides far more detail about the history of each of the characters and how they came to be part of the Corleone story. Often you find that a film brings a book to life but actually, because of these details, it could have been the other way around for me.Mario Puzo’s story and character telling was utter brilliance and can’t wait to read more of his work!!!

LOVELY BOOK!
I bought this for a present for my husband and was delighted with the book. However, I do totally agree with what other people have said about the label stuck on the back, which has an ugly barcode. I tried, very carefully to remove this and pulled away part of the book! I ended up having to buy a black stick label to put over the horrible mess left by the removal of the label. So, a warning to others, probably best to leave it on! Apart from the label, it is a fabulous book!

Really enjoyed this!
This isn’t something what I would normally read. But, I really enjoyed it! The godfather films are some of my all time favourite films, so I wanted to try this book. I really enjoyed as it gave an more in depth description of the characters and they backgrounds, even the minor characters in the film. I do find it’s description around women is quite patriarchal, but I think this just fits in with the theme of the book, so if your a feminist this ain’t for you! Overall, I really enjoyed it, and if you like the films I defiantly recommend this book!

Loved the films, love the book!
Having been an avid fan of The Godfather for many years, I was quite cautious about reading the book as I'd heard that the movies had "turned an average novel into a cinematic masterpiece" on more than occasion. Whilst there's some truth to this statement (the writing is clunky at times, the narrative voice somewhat inconsistent with what the characters should know at any one point, and its treatment of women is certainly a difficult read through modern eyes), this is still an incredibly absorbing and enjoyable read.I couldn't put this down, and having seen the movies just gave me a great visual backdrop with which to follow along. Highly recommended!

Too many boring sections
Quite badly written. As I have obviously seen the films, the parts of the novel used in the films were okay, easy to read through. However, there are large sections which add nothing to the narrative - descriptions of various surgery, Johnny Fontaine's relationship with his ex-wife, his problems with his career.Pointless writing - take it it out and novel is virtually a short story.
