Q: How well do they grip on to fabric like clothing ? Do they come off with a pull ?

I have NOT used them on clothing. I use them when gluing card together when making models for OO Gauge model railways. They are excellent for that - the firmest of holds that ALWAYS does the job. I COULD have tried them on fabric had I fully understood what the clamping on clothing entailed I COULD have experimented. My best guess is they would hold two pieces of fabric being glued together & would hold two pieces of fabric NOT glued like a RUNNING No. on a sports vest. My guess as yo come off with a pull I would say they would be some resistance but opening a clamp in the usual way was necessary. They MAY pull off but wouldn’t drop off!
