I wouldn't cut anything into the suit. It will most likely ruin it for good. Visibility is fine. I used mine on Halloween outside and could see good enough to scare passer-byers

Q: I'm 6'4 and 290lb what size should I get?

I would definitely go 2-3X. I’m 5’5” & a muscular 205lb. The large fit perfect, no sagging & it wasn’t too tight. The spandex material is definitely 5star!
