Seems very sturdy, high quality, took 2 people.
Just finished putting this futon together. While it comes with written instructions, the video was great! It definitely took 2 of us. I gave it 3 stars for ease of assembly, but that should be 4. I'd have given that 5 if I'd have been able to do it totally by myself. Comes in 3 separate pieces, 2 boxes and the mattress separately. The mattress color is more teal than navy, which I'm thrilled about personally. The suade is very soft, the mattress seems very comfy. Again, just finished, so time will tell. The hardware is very well packaged well marked. Zero room for confusion. It has 3 positions: upright, reclining, flat. It's heavy so I plan on getting furniture slides for easier moving when it needs to be a bed. The only thing that isn't quite to the rest of the quality is the tuffts, they're plastic with no covers/bottons on them. I found that kind of odd and cheapend the look of the futon imo. Right now, I'd totally recommend this futon.

Exactly as advertised
Great value for the price - good-looking, solid wood, nicely finished. While there was quite a bit of assembly required, every piece was labeled and the expanded diagrams were detailed and accurate. My husband put this together in a little over two hours, only needing my help at the very last step. Lifting the seating surfaces into the frame and getting the rollers into their respective slots is definitely a two person job. Once the frame is assembled and all bolts tightened, it’s very sturdy and the roller mechanism to convert from sofa to bed and back again can be easily operated by one person. The sofa does not need to be moved away from the wall in order to open into a bed, which is super convenient. The mattress is decent - though not quite as thick as advertised. We’ll see how it holds up. There seems to be enough padding over the springs, but I’m not sure what being folded into a sofa will do to its supportive quality as a bed. The upholstery fabric does not continue on the back side, so clearly the mattress is not meant to be flipped, which is a shame because that could extend its life. Instead of the linen-like upholstery, the back is covered with a plush faux suede - maybe to help it resist slippage on the frame? I am glad to report there was no funky smell or off-gassing from the mattress, which seems to bear out its claim to contain US CertiPUR foam and cotton padding. All in all, this futon makes a very good first impression!

Broke before we even had a chance to use it. Kodiak did send us a replacement part.
Update: I contacted Kodiak Furniture and they did send me a replacement for the piece that broke. It was sent out the next day at no cost to me. I am very happy with their customer service. The futon is great in the couch position but I'm still hesitant to use it as a bed.It looks very nice and it is comfortable to sit on but the frame broke right away. We purchased this for our camper. We assembled it and sat on it for a few minutes and it seemed great but haven't touched it since. We planned on using the camper this weekend so I decided to put the fitted sheet on it so we could also use it as a bed. My husband laid on it to see if it was comfortable and when he sat up the frame across the front of the seat portion broke. He is not even a big guy (172-lbs). I'm going to try and contact the manufacture to see if they will send us a replacement piece. I'll update my review if their customer service is good.

Finally found the best futon EVER
I have had three other futons, one from a garage sale and two from big box stores. They were all cheap junk that never worked well in any position. This futon is a game changer for me. I now have the perfect couch for my home office. It's solidly built and only took about 2 hours to build taking my time. Make sure you have carpet or a large area rug to assemble. You will need an extra set of hands for attaching the mattress support to the frame. The mattress is awesome and it will last a LONG time. I tend to sleep in all positions (back, stomach, and side) through each night and the mattress was excellent in all. I was surprised at the lack of "factory smell" with this mattress. It had a faint smell of aspen pads used on swamp coolers when first taken out of its wrap.I did extensive research before making this purchase and was about to pull the trigger on the same thing outside of Amazon with another company. I did a double check and found the same thing here for almost $200 less. I was ready to pay more and would have if this was not available on Amazon.Do yourself a favor and stay away from the sub $200 futons at the box stores, and get this. This futon is going to give me years of comfort as a couch and a bed. This one is worth every penny.

An excellent (and beautiful) futon sofa!
The sofa is just as other shoppers describe: it is sturdy and beautiful. We have not yet tried using it as a bed, but it is very comfortable as a sofa. The butternut stain with the light blue linen futon is lovely. The assembly takes some time (and definitely needs 2 people—at least for some of the steps); but the pieces are well marked and the instructions clear, with the exception, perhaps, of the step that involves inserting the nylon guides: the image on the relevant page did not make it clear that the washer needs to go on the side with the cotter pin (the clip that looks like a modified bobby pin), so we had to go back and redo that step. But although that was a bit annoying, it was not difficult. The pieces come in 3 packages: 2 boxes, one with the two side pieces + hardware, and the other with the stretchers, slats, and hardware; plus 1 bag holding the rolled futon. They are easy to move (the futon is the heaviest of the 3). As a further benefit, it looks like the assembled sofa can be taken apart quite easily: after loosening the bolts in the frame (the final step of the assembly), one can then lift out the slat-assembly from the cradle-frame. So, moving it should be quite straight-forward.An added bonus is that there is no smell associated with any of the components.
