It's okay, but...
It's okay, but there is a design flaw. Yes, it holds a lot of sand. Yes, it is a great anchor. Yes, the band for attaching is super strong and can suspend the weight. However, the cap refuses to stay on.The flaw is this... the heavy weight of suspended sand deforms the retention ring on the top. This deforms so much so that the ring caves in and the cap literally pops right off. Of course this happens after the steps are in place and anchored in. Then once the lid pops off, any turbulence in the water is enough to stir up the sand and disperse it into your pool. Not good. I like someone else suggestion and try using a few gallon sized milk jugs instead.

Does what it says, it works.
Update: 2019-06-13: ours just wore out. The plastic started to get cracks in it and started to leak sand. Time to buy a new one.Original post:Does what it says, it works. Others complain about leaking sand/etc. Here's the thing. Put the lid on and tighten it down, don't swing it around. Don't mess with it while it's in the pool. I've had mine there for a awhile and never had an issue. I can see how you would have an issue if you keep messing with it and swing it around. Its plastic and it's going to move. Be careful with it, set it in there, leave it be and you'll be golden.

What do I use for weights since I didn’t get the right ones for these steps? Your suggestion sucked
I am so angry I could spit. I ordered the steps for my daughters pool so I could get in it. The picture showed 2 weights and a mat. I ordered. They received everything opened it and threw all packaging away. There was only one weight need 2 like the picture, there is no way to secure the weights to these steps because even though people bought these with the steps they don’t work for these steps. We need weights for these steps, this one weight is wrong one but I can’t send it back because no packing label. I have pool steps that don’t work without weights. Thank you for suggesting that I buy weights that don’t work with these pool steps.

Not heavy duty so I replace them every year.
I buy 5 of these each year and fill them with river rock because I don't want to mess with all the sand in the pool if they break while in use. They do weigh the steps down and prevent them from moving, but I have never had them last for more than one season. I take them out after the season and at least one or two will break at a corner every year while sitting over the winter (and no, I don't have water in them that freezes). As others have mentioned, the handles are not heavy duty. I don't use the handles until it's time to pull them out from the steps at the end of the season and haven't had any lids pull off, but have had handles break.

The longevity of the product.
I filled with sand some water and a little bleach to prevent algea growth in the sand. I secured the lids properly and they seem to work fine. I added 60 pounds of a 70 pound bag of sand to one. I used one as a weight on top of a patch for the liner and it sat for 36 hours in the middle of the pool with no leaking. Two of them fit sideways on the back of my ladder perfectly. I only gave 4 because the handles are a little flimsy so holding the handle with 60 pounds of sand was a little sketchy.

MUST HAVE FOR POOL STEPS!
Perfect solution for pool steps! We were having floating and sliding issues even using pvc filled with concrete! 3 bag filled with sand and the steps aren't going anywhere even with kids pulling and hanging on them! A must for above ground pool steps!!!

Too flimsy
Like several others we are disappointed in the quality of product against its claims. The handles are flimsy. We had two of these behind our pool drop-in steps. Tied to the stair rails. within a month the handles literally snapped apart and there was our sand jugs rolling around. Adding sand to the jug is tricky because the handle doesn't offer much support to 50lb sand. Id like to have this product designed with an existing indentation in order to manipulate to and in the pool at set up; easier to handle than a 50lb block. Will try a different product this summer.

Good for Leaking sand everwhere
The screw-on-top doesn't have much threading to attach it to these plastic jugs. I'm sorry to say that I bought these. For the price, they should have lids that stay on tight. Don't use these as sand weights. Maybe gravel would be better.
