American Hunter 5-Gallon Digital Hanging Bucket Feeder, Black, One Size (AH-XDE40B)

I bought this because I needed a new feeder to attach to my 30 gallon drum. This one comes with the new digital style of American hunter feeder, not the old digital style. As everyone knows, the older style is much easier to program. The new style feeder is a real pain to program. However, for $50, I’ll suck it up and use the new style.Additionally, the new style of feeder is very awkward to attach to a drum or even a 5 gallon bucket. I resolved this by removing the nuts from the feeder unit and replacing them with the included bolts. This allowed me to not only have a good pattern as to where to drill the holes in the poly drum, but also makes it much easier to attach the bolts to the nuts once the bolts are in the new holes. And if you really want to make it easy, just replace the enclosed nuts and bolts with self tapping screws. Problem solved.The last issue with this new feeder is the programming instructions. The manufacturer omitted a very important part of the programming instructions when setting the feed time. The very first thing you must do to get to the right menu is press the arrow down button to get to the custom screen. After that, you can follow the instructions accurately. All in all, the new feeder is OK but not an improvement over the old style feeder. I wish American hunter was still selling the old style but it is getting almost impossible to find them.

The instructions do not match the unit. There are no arrows on a touch screen (home screen) you must use arrow buttons on the timer to program the unit. The bucket has no pre drilled holes to attach it to the feeder motor. I unscrewed the 8 screws on top of the motor unit, detached the top of the feeder motor unit and used that as a template to drill the holes in the bucket. Would be nice if they drilled the holes or at least provided a template. Maybe they do , but not in my box. Timer very hard to program and does not seem to work now. Battery must be wedged in with something to make contact. I used cardboard. I tried two of these and sending this one back too. Very poor design and timer is junk.

What a piece of junk (the bucket, motor, and blade are o.k., hard to mess that up) but the timer is a nightmare. Even following the directions to the T results in the wrong thing that you are trying to do. The interface and programming is a mess A prime example of Chinese junk, so the American consumers pay money and lose. Don't buy it. If this is sold by American Hunter then the product should be American also.Didn't even waste my time returning it, the company American Hunter has a clause that says they would be the one to determine if your claim is warranted or not and return shipping would be denied.

This is a complete unit, less battery. However, it is not well designed.The mounting holes in the bottom of the 5 gallon can are not pre-drilled, the battery "compartment" does not actually hold the battery in a secure electrical connection. Worst of all, the operating instructions for the digital control unit are almost non-existent. The complexity of the digital control make field adjustment, or resetting of the unit, almost impossible.This is a very low cost unit and should only be purchased by someone with lots of spare time, operating under ideal hunting conditions.

This is an amazing product for the money! I purchased a different lid from Ku local paint store for $2 that is easier to use and it works great

I have several of these and they have worked great, fairly simple set up, reliable

The lid is hard to get on and off, the battery don't set thight have to put something behind it to keep in place,and there is no directions how to assemble.
