Trust is everything
When I read the short teaser for this story, I knew in the back of my mind that I would love it. I waited anxiously for the release date to see if the story would be anything like I expected. It was so much more. And It was well worth the wait.Calloway Owens, a Dominant, is slapped by Rome Moretti in a bar when she mistakes him for another man. Calloway becomes obsessed with her beauty, strength, and ferociousness. The two eventually meet again and it’s the start of a special relationship; but not before Calloway ends things with his current submissive who just can’t seem to let go…Calloway has one goal in mind, to make Rome his submissive. Rome wants to take things slow and see where the relationship goes. They both have dark and troubled pasts that continue to haunt them, and they eventually open up to each other in more ways than one. The affection and passion that they have for each other continues to blossom between them while Calloway struggles to hide his dark side from Rome, and Rome struggles to accept his need to care for, protect, and dominate her. Even when he slips up and shows his true self, she sticks around, and she particularly likes it in the bedroom. There are some arguments and doubts about whether to walk away or stay, but their bond grows stronger and gets deeper than either one of them expected.I got lost in this story, and I was grateful that it was so long because I never wanted it to end. I instantly fell in love with the characters, and I could picture exactly what was going on in my mind, like a movie, because the story is written so well. The ending left me aching to know what happens next, and I almost started to cry at the thought of having to wait a while for the next book. But I know it will be well worth the wait.

Callow and Rome
🩶 My Thoughts 🩶Rome and Calloway meet in a bar. Rome mistakes him for the guy who cheated on her friend. She slaps him, and in that instance, Calloway falls hard for her. He breaks things off the next day with his sub and then pursues Rome. Rome ends up coming to work for Calloway. They have their hidden secrets, their ups and downs (they break up 3 times). This is a 4 book series and must be read in order.I like this series so much. They are not long books, and I read all 4 of them in about 8 hours. They are kind of intense with some of the BDSM but otherwise, the story is great. Both MC have tragic pasts, and I did cry a few times from their stories. I love Calloway, and even though he could be an ass sometime he was actually really sweet. He knew Rome didn't like BDSM and he tried tries to give up his Dom side. In the end, he couldn't. Rome is fierce and very fiesty. She is stubborn and strong-willed and stands her ground like no other. Calloway made so many sacrifices for her, but she never made any for him until the final book. I for sure didn't agree with her about not making some sacrifices for Calloway like he did for her. When I first started this series, I thought it was heading into the 50 shades of Grey's storyline, and I was soooo glad to be proved wrong. Were there some similarities, yes, but they are very different. For sure, recommend this series.

It started off great, but quickly sizzled out for me.
I'm still unsure how I feel about this book, now that I'm finished. It started off really good, and it had such potential. But something happened between the beginning and the end. I'm not sure if the author wanted to make the book longer, or what, but I had a hard time staying focused. It was so drug out, and very repetitive. But I kept going because I wanted to learn more about Calloway and Rome. There was so many hints that made me thing these characters had something important to share, but again, I was left hanging. Yes, there are a few times they each opened up, but to me it wasn't enough.Calloway is shown as this Dom who loves being a Dom. He relishes in it, but I never actually saw that. Sure he's controlling in the bedroom, but he did not live up to my expectations of a true Dom. Honestly, his inner monologue got to the point in every single chapter, that I already knew what he was thinking. He mainly wanted Rome to be his sub, yet he never once asked her. He never even told her about his lifestyle of Dom/sub. It bothers me the most about this because he claims he's a man of his word, but he was hiding who he truly is just because he wants Rome. He literally was suppressing his Dom side to be with her. I don't know about anyone else, but to me? That's not the way to go about getting someone to be their sub. Then we have Rome. Maybe I would've connected with her more if I got her POV more. This book is mainly in Calloway's POV, which is fine, but I honestly couldn't make myself like Rome. She comes off as standoffish, and a bit irritating. I get the author wanted to make her look strong, because she didn't want to depend on anyone, but it backfired. Even with all the little things I got to see about her past didn't change my mind about her. She would do certain things that really got on my nerves, and it made her seem like a brat. For someone that's supposed to be so grateful for all she has, Rome really showed me she was a very unlikable character. She constantly put herself in situations that could've turned into a really bad situation, and yet, made Calloway out to the bed bad guy because he just wanted her safe. In what world does that make sense? The chemistry between these two has me on the fence. Yes, they connected, but honestly, it was ONLY when things were sexual. And trust me, every other scene was something sexual. I don't mind reading a lot of steamy scenes, but I felt no other connection to these two outside of the bedroom. It was as if that's all they wanted from each other. Especially Calloway. That's all he thought about. I wanted to see more romance or something else besides them getting hot and heavy all the time.Like I said in the beginning, this book had a lot of potential. In the beginning, I thought I had stumbled onto a really good book series. But sadly, I doubt I'll finish this series. I just don't think I can continue reading a knock off of Fifty Shades. It was sort of shocking at how similar it was to Fifty. I hate that I didn't enjoy reading this one. It started off great, but quickly sizzled out for me.

Loved the Characters
At first you may think this book is just like the others, bit it's not. The author has created unique and strong characters with issues that both bring them together, but have the possibility to push them apart. Lots of other opposing forces make it an edge of your seat read.

Hot Sexy Read
Victoria Quinn is a new author to me so I was excited to read this first book in the Obsidian series.Firstly I want to say how quickly I warmed to both main characters through the dual POV. Cal (Calloway) is cold and commanding on the surface but as the story goes on we learn more about his past and circumstances that have shaped the man he is today. Rome is sweet and caring until pushed too far then has the backbone to put any man in his place and again as with Cal we learn about Rome’s past and the reasons she so strong and caring. The book isn't fast paced and the slow build is perfect to draw you into Cal and Rome’s story and cover all the secrets we learn about their past. The story has BDSM themes and doesn't go into terrific detail about the lifestyle but I'm thinking book 2 Black Diamond might so you've been warned.I wouldn't say the book ends on a cliffhanger as such its just that at the end of Black Obsidian you don't have all the answers as you're only part way through the story so for people who don't like a cliffy I'm not swearing and tearing my hair out waiting but I've pre-ordered Black Diamond and I’m really looking forward to the next part.I loved the way the book was written and will definitely be keeping my eye out for more books by this author.Well worth a read you won't be disappointed.

Brilliant book. Quinn captured both character's internal battle with their past. Their pain resonated with me as a reader. Sexually arousing, emotionally charged and down right naughty.

Beyond underwhelming.
420 something pages of repetitive nothingness, it isn't erotic enough to ignore the many holes of the story. This whole book could and should have been just a few chapters of a larger story which the author seems to already have a sequel, they should consider including that book for free with this one.
