The Peacemaker's Code

A thoughtful insight to an alien visit to Earth
This was one of the better books I have read in some time. This one had unexpected turns and really made me think. The premise is believable and one that I have entertained in my own imagination of what it would be like if Aliens came to visit Earth. I like the character portrayals in this book and it had a nice vibe with a love story woven into it as well. All around a very entertaining read.

Interesting, educational and fun!
Just finished Deepak’s Malhotra’s SF book, The Peacemaker’s Code. It was an interesting and also fun read on the art and science of negotiation, which certainly is an unusual combination.I have some familiarity with high level negotiations. I don’t claim to be a student of the art/science to any great degree, but I have studied it some, and have some practical experience. I usually find books on negotiation dry as dust.I also do read some science fiction, though not as much as I used to do years ago.Anyway, the idea of using classic SF to set up a crucial negotiation context was very entertaining and informative. Brilliant. Frankly, I couldn’t put it down. The story and characters are excellent, and it is a real page turner in the best tradition of classic SF. The insights from an expert in negotiation are invaluable.I can recommend it highly. It deserves a wide audience.

Will They or Won't They?
A somewhat unusual book. Well-written and an easy read, as might be expected from the author's background. Would I buy it again? -- definitely. The author is apparently an historian and a negotiator, and if you are supposed to write about what you know, he does that for sure in this book. The aliens arrive, they're going to destroy our civilization -- unless you can talk us out of it which, by the way, on one ever has. The book focuses on that task relentlessly -- figuring out how to talk to the aliens and then talking them out of it. That story line is developed exceedingly well -- clever, interesting, surprising twists. What I found odd, however, is how everything else in the story was, or wasn't, handled: for example, the aliens arrive in several ships, even drop a couple of bombs on the moon, and land in the U.S., and hardly anyone seems to notice or care except the American government -- no amateur astronomers saying "Hey, what's this?", no CNN and all the media, no riots in the streets or Wall Street panic -- no mention of the public at all till over 200 pages in. And China, Russia, foreign governments are seemingly happy to let the U. S. President and a half-dozen other government officials handle the whole thing. Foreign governments are not significantly involved at all till after 400 pages, near the end. And, last example, among the half-dozen Americans calling all the shots, right in there with the President, Sec. of Defense, Head of CIA are two secret service agents, contributing as equals in the discussions -- just doesn't work that way! It's as if the author were painting "The King and His Family in the Castle Garden" and he only painted the King and his family, and just forgot about the garden. To me, the book seemed to be strictly an intellectual puzzle posed to the reader in the form of a novel: the aliens are gonna kill us, how do you talk them out of it? It's a very important issue to consider (thinkers have questioned whether its really wise to advertise our whereabouts to the universe while seeking other intelligent life, because if they find us, they may think it only prudent to destroy us while they can) and the author does a great job in handling it. If you enjoy this kind of puzzle, you'll enjoy this book -- as I did, as evidenced by my writing this long review!

A Must Read!
A fantastic read! I highly recommend this book to anyone who is interested in science fiction and history. I was captivated by the blending of aliens, historical events and the lessons learned, or not, from those events.

Great Novel with interesting insights
I loved the book with the storyline and analysis of history and how one can use history to deal with hard decisions. The book reminded me of Asimov's Foundation series and Psycho-history concept. I truly loved reading the book. You will too.

Loved this book!
This was an excellent real world SciFi adventure, while also being a polished study in negotiations and strategy. And while that seems less "adventure-y" than you may think, the peril seems real and the consequences are world ending. The characters are very well drawn and have real depth. Excellent world building. I enjoyed this book immensely.

A book for all science fiction fans! And for those who enjoy solving complex problems.
An amazing book which brings science fiction and some very interesting historical facts together to solve a very complex problem faced by our planet. While this is a work of fiction, those who prefer non-fiction will thoroughly enjoy this book. Lots of complex decision making and negotiation techniques can be learned by the careful reader.

Esta super el muy libro
La historia de amor es el único problema, no es creíble es un poco denigrante para ella , pero todo lo demás está wow, aunque existe base en todo lo que se dice te hace pensar que es la única respuesta y esta padre eso porque así te la crees mas.

Fun fiction built around a serious foundation
Look, it's a page turner without doubt and you'll be turning them in a flurry at that. But any work of fiction that has suggested highlights is obviously much more than a story about boy meets girl meets situation, and Deepak nicely blends his other area of interest (negotiation) into a really fun and believable tale. Even when he bends reality just a little too far, it feels more like license than looseness. Some books prefer that you know almost nothing about them when you first meet because they're so good at introducing themselves, and this is one such book. My advice is read it but don't read anything about it. Let it speak entirely for itself.
