I thought these were great at first, and they seemed so for about 9 months, then the little buggers realized that they could chew right through them. If you look at my pictures you'll see I also have some Hardware wire as well they did not chew through that (but they did get under it by chewing thru these wire baskets, they went top down, right thru the middle of the plant to gain access initially. It looks like going forward we're just going to need to make baskets out of the hardware wire (even tho that's way more work/hassle).I have these & similar other brand baskets on most all of my newer plants I put in. I'm thinking that it depends on the desirability of the roots they want to eat on whether they're going to bother chewing through them or not, so if your plant isn't that desirable they may skip it. These may be more of a deterrent than an actual protection. Something to consider when you're buying and planting new things.

OMG these things are the bomb! I bought them in every size they make and they are so easy to use. Have you used those hard wire gopher baskets that come flat and have to be pried open to make a "sort of" container for plant root balls?!?! They're a nightmare. It used to take me twenty minutes to get one plant in the ground. By contrast the Vole King Baskets are absolutely genius. They are like a beautifully knitted fine chain mail. Open the package, roll the basket over the root ball and plane. 3 minutes max! It's as easy as putting a sock on your foot! Thank you Vole King.

So far so good. I got these for groundhogs after speaking with the manufacturer.The groundhogs seem to be unable to get to the roots, as promised. I know they have tried, because a few of them did have to come above ground to eat the top of the flowering plants. We have serious groundhog density!We're solving that problem by other means. Not sure if the vole cages can solve that problem. It would be ugly to leave the cages sticking too far out of the ground.That said, the plants will grow back. Their roots have been protected. And now we know what to expect.The cages are very easy to use and they are a breeze compared to making your own cages out of hardware cloth! We needed hundreds of them.Manufacturer says if the groundhogs do try to chew through the cages, they'll have to stop because the wires will hurt them.

I just wanted to thank Vole King for providing an answer to the increasing problem of Voles in our landscapes. I have been landscaping for over 25 years and finally have found a product I feel confident installing for our clients. Vole King was affordable and extremely effective in existing vole infested projects. I use this product with out exception in all of our installations. The best thing about it is its a permanent, one time solution. The clients and I do not need to follow up on treatments afterwards. Vole King has been a huge time saver for my company and my clients. My clients also look at it as a very cheap solution to protect their expensive plants. Voles and chipmunks eat my bulbs and the roots of many of my plants . After some years, I got wise and started lining the holes with window screen material. This worked well but it is a huge hassle to cut the screen to size and bend it the right way. These baskets take all the work out of lining the holes. They are also long enough to extend over the ground many inches. The chipmunks cannot even tunnel next to the plants and it keeps the water in.

The gophers repeatedly chewed right through these baskets and killed my plants. This happened with nearly all of them. The wire is too thin and lightweight. What a big waste of time and money!! I absolutely do not recommend this product.

Great product that works! I had to dig up/rescue a plant that was being attacked by the voles. I planted a new plant with the vole planting basket and you could see the little critter came back and tried to eat through but couldn't. Finally something that works. You can always make your own with the 1/4 hardware cloth but this saves you lots of scratches and blood. Nasty stuff to work with.

Haven't seen any voles or gophers trying to gnaw through this mesh yet, and seeing how so many trees considered delicious by gophers are still standing and even growing amidst gopherland, I'd say it's working. Very easy to stretch over root balls.

They will work but I think for $7 each I could’ve made some a lot cheaper. A bit flimsy and coming apart already.I wouldn’t recommend these. Better off buying bulk yard of chicken wire and making your own.
