Q: Can you shorten the length of this?

Yes - just need to either tie knots or cut and re-tie the ropes to the hooks at the top. I bought this a year ago and my kids love it - I can even swing on it - no problem as an adult - is actually fun. You can adjust the height as you wish. it comes very long/ ie. out of the box super low to ground - but if you have little kids that is good. If you want for big kids or adults you can shorten.
