An outstanding and well-researched book!
This book has been extremely well researched, and uncovers some surprising facets of the background and use of meteorites in human history, as well as a host of scientific information of interest to most readers. Thoroughly recommended

Good, but room for improvement.
I got this book as a present. While it gives a pretty good account of meteorites, it has some omissions that need rectifying.A table listing all known meteorites, giving their chemical analyses and radiometric ages would have been an extremely valuable addition in my opinion, as I have samples of four different meteorites in my rock collection and would like to know more about them.A proper reference list of academic papers would also have been a useful inclusion alongside the general web addresses and books. On pages 5 and 7 she refers to 'frictional heating' causing the burning and melting of meteors as they pass through the atmosphere. This is wrong! The heating is caused by the compression of the air in front of the meteor as it passes through the atmosphere. Basic physics.A major problem occurs on page 53 where there is a diagram showing the locations of asteroids within the Solar System that lacks any key for the colours in it. It indicates the locations of Trojan asteroids, Greek asteroids, and Hilda asteroids, but does not mention these groups anywhere in the text of the book. The Trojans and Greeks are both labelled the same colour: why? There are red and green dots inside the orbit of Mars: what do they represent? Why are their clusters of Hilda asteroids within the main groups of Trojan and Greek asteroids? If one of my former GCSE physics pupils had produced a diagram like that as part of their coursework, I would have sent it back as inadequate: how it got past a professional editor baffles me.This could have been so much better. Let’s hope the next edition is.

Great book about meteorites
I bought this for my 13 year old granddaughter who is interested in meteorites. The writing was very easy to understand, very informative, but not gear down to children (she appreciated that) The photographs and diagrams were absolutely beautiful. I almost wish I had bought a second book for myself
