Tricky build!
Our ten year old found this a challenging but rewarding build. He got a bit stuck but persevered and finished on his own. He is very proud of the moving parts on the larger ship and how the mini boats can be popped off and reattached. Cool set.

Ninjago was not a sub-division brand of Lego which existed when I was but a lad, but it is currently one of the most popular off-shoots with multiple products and media tie-ins. Having grown up in the 80s, ninjas were all the rage and like any boy I wanted to scale walls in my one-piece Gi, lobbing shurikens over my shoulder and hopping from rooftop to rooftop decimating entire populations with my shadowy skills. Getting this set and building it with my kids has therefore been a nostalgic trip and made my consider skipping on my music and taking my eternal battle against evil to the road once more.Until then, I have a lot of Lego playing to to. This set features 6 characters and two boats - Catamarans - which are used to instigate deadly water battles between warring factions. The two ships are particularly stylish and gorgeous, decked out in oriental splendour while looking like the sort of high speed vehicle you might expect to see zooming around Tatooine. Like a motorcycle and sidecar, the catamarans can split off into smaller vehicles or escape pods to heighten imaginative and adventurous play and the sails are tall and impressive. There are multiple moving parts and you can customize as you please, but as is usually the way I tend to follow the basic main build instructions and leave things at that. As always my girls and I enjoy working together on the build and then incorporate the sets into our existing Lego world, and as always the instructions are clear and the build is detailed and solid.
