The Amprobe ACD-3400 digital clamp meter is a true RMS (root mean square) sensing, auto- or manual-ranging multimeter for measuring current, voltage, capacitance, resistance, frequency, and duty cycles in electrical testing and heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) applications. It has a clamp that measures alternating current (AC) and direct current (DC) to 1,000 amp. The meter comes with detachable test leads that measure DC voltage to 1,000 volts (V), AC voltage to 750V, capacitance to 6.6 millifarads, resistance to 66 megaohms, frequency to 1 megahertz (MHz), and duty cycles up to 95%. The clamp has two jaws that can close around a conductor up to 2" (57 mm) in diameter to measure current or frequency without touching or interrupting the circuit. The relative zero mode stores a reading in memory to use as a zero point for subsequent readings, allowing quick comparison of multiple readings. The peak + or - function records peak positive or negative values for AC current and AC voltage. The maximum or minimum reading mode displays the highest or lowest reading in a session to track a sudden increase or decrease in readings. It has a liquid crystal display (LCD) that shows readings both in digits and on a 66-segment bar graph. The LCD is backlit for visibility in low light. An audible continuity sensor confirms that the circuit conducts electricity, and a diode test detects whether a circuit’s diodes are working properly. When turned on, the meter will be in auto-ranging mode and automatically selects select the correct operating range for the property being measured. It can be switched to manual-ranging mode, which requires that the operator choose the appropriate operating range. The meter has a 6,600-count resolution, meaning it can display up to 6,599 units (3-3/4 digits) before the operating range needs to be changed.
