what is the knife for?

Scribes would use the knife to keep the paper from moving while lettering. If you are right-handed, you would use the knife in your left hand above the line you are currently lettering. There are YouTube videos showing how to do this.

How do you switch nibs

Thanks for posting the question.There is a round connector at the junction of the pen tip and the pen barrel. Use your nails to gently push down from the gap. After removing the connector, you can replace the pen tip.

If you dip the pen in ink does it last very long to write?

Using the nib it has installed (not the italic nibs) and noodler’s brown ink I got about two lines of writing before I had to dip the quill.

Can I buy extra ink? 18cc?

I believe that will you have to purchase that separately. When I got this for my sister for this Christmas coming up, this is all it came with. You may have to search for that kind of ink. You can also try emailing or contacting the company that sells it and ask them.
