Love it! Upgraded from the Ring 2. Huge improvements!
I had the Ring 2 before this and it would not connect to the Router WiFi in another room, I had to use a wifi extender and for what ever reason the Ring 2 would go off line every so many days. I would have to unplug the wifi extender to reset it to get the Ring 2 to reconnect. The view range on the Ring 2 I did not like as I could not see the floor of the porch like I now can with the Ring 2 Pro. Now that I have the Ring 2 Pro, the video picture is much better, but what I love the most is that the thing has yet to go off line. It is reliable such that it catches everything as it never goes off line (at least not yet and it has been a week or so now).I also like that it loads faster in the app than the Ring 2. I have it set to take a photo every 30 seconds, which is nice and already saved me on a delivery in which the delivery app said that the driver made the delivery, but there was no motion that put the camera on at that time, but since I had the photo taken every 30 seconds I was able to provide the photos to the delivery app to prove that there was no delivery car or driver on the driveway or my porch showing photos taken every 30 seconds. Had I not had this new Ring Pro 2 that stays online and takes those photos, I would have been out $40 for that delivery. So this new door bell already has saved me $40.The motion detection range is also nice that I can have it cover the lawn and drive way, but clearly not the side walk so when people walk their dog it does not go off. But, if someone is in my lawn it will go off. I also love that this has the recording live all the time, so when it detects motion it has many seconds before the motion was detected so that I have the person coming on the drive up to the porch and can see the the entire time later. The Ring 2 I had before, at times did not have the motion detected right away and the video would come on when a delivery person was near the front door dropping the box off. This at times made it hard to see the face of the person, the video did not get them from far away. Now that I have this new Ring Pro 2, I can see the people coming from far away and since they normally do not see the ring door bell until they get close people are not looking away. This provides much better video to show police if ever needed, to see who the person that came to the door was. Huge benefit of the Ring 2 Pro.I am thinking of getting a Ring Spotlight or Ring Floodlight next with the video, but if they do not have this level of video I may get other Ring Pro 2 devices and install as this video quality and reliability is really good. The installation I had problems with at first, because the old transformer was not getting enough power to the door bell. The Ring Pro 2 takes more power than the Ring 2 did, or the battery in the Ring 2 was enough power to make up for it.The issue I had with my old transformer on the door bell power line, was that when I put the Ring 2 Pro on it, the inside door chime bell that is a old mechanical style would not ring. It did for the old Ring 2, but not for the Ring Pro 2. The Ring Pro 2 requires a power adapter be put on the mechanical chime inside or the inside Chime would make a loud buzzing noise when the door bell was rang and it would not stop for minutes, and then the chime inside kept going off every so many seconds. When I put the inside Chime power adapter back on the inside chime, it would not make the buzz sound, but it also would not ring. The app said there was low voltage, at 15v.We took off the old transformer in the basement for the doorbell, it was hooked up to a light blub socket in the basement. Very odd place to put it, and was hard to find it. Once we changed that old transformer to one for the Ring Door Bell Pro 2, it fixed the problems. The door bell rang inside on the chime correctly. The error message on the device health in the app for the voltage transformer did not go away, it still says in the app there is only 15V to the Ring Pro 2, but the direct feed from the new transformer to the Ring Door Bell 2 is direct and all the functions work perfect. No idea why the error message is still on the device health in the app, it has been many days now, it is still there, but everything works fine. The night mode, color night vision, and HDR, etc. I had to change the settings to get the best picture at night as I have a light by it that is always on and a white wall by it, so I could not get the ideal picture, but got it to work best after trying many variations of the settings. The door bell chime inside, for the mechanical bell, was also wired odd to my settings, we tried many different changes to it, but turns out that had we just changed the transformer from the start it would all worked.I would say just buy the new transformer and plan to install it with the Ring Pro 2, now having this work perfect and never going off line, and all the functions work perfect. I did not get the transformer at first and wanted to save a few bucks, but trying to do it that way caused huge frustration. If I had it all to do over again, I would replace the transformer if it is old, and or if you did not get a new one that you know for sure has the power needed to the Ring Pro 2. That way you know the power feed is correct and chances are it will save you half a day of trouble shooting as well as issues down the road if it goes off line or has trouble with the night vision video. Also, finding the old transformer may be tricky, mine was in the basement on a old light socked, but at first I was looking in the wall by the inside chime bell, it was not there. All in all this is really great new product and I do not see ever needing to change it. The old Ring 2, I had problems with from near the start. I wish I had this new Ring Pro 2 from the start.

Nice Design, Mounting Options (Get Creative)
Overall, the Ring Doorbell 2 Pro works very well and was a worthy upgrade for my existing Ring Doorbell 2.The image when zooming in on far away things will only be as detailed as any reasonable person would expect when zooming into any other image. Downloading the video might be advisable for catching details at the beginning of the videos. The beginning of a motion alert video can be glitchy while the stream starts. I presume this isn't a limitation of the device, as much as it is the video buffering and streaming in the app. This isn't specific to this model either.Mounting Rant:The mounting can be easy and the instructions are clear for standard mounting configurations, but this wasn't the case for me. I moved recently and the mounting configuration I had used before wasn't going to work anymore. This was new territory for me (and for Ring). I concede now that this isn't the product's fault, because Ring does offer mounting options for most configurations, but none immediately worked for my unique need. The Amazon Ring Security Team Advocate jumped on the opportunity to find a solution. Although it successfully addressed my needs. We were trying to solve for something different than a mounting solution usually calls for.You see the Ring Doorbell 2 Pro corner and wedge mounting kits work well together, but double stacking wedges gets tricky because of missing recess spaces for the screws. I had to get creative, but not for a lack of the mounting versatility or Amazon Ring Security Team Advocate's willingness to make it right. Thank you Ring.Experience:On 4/3/2021, I just received it a day or so after it was released. I wanted to upload some photos for others. It was delivered in a small box and it was very light. At first, I was very skeptical about the size of the package. I'll update my review after I use it for a while.I usually don't make assumptions, but it is pretty clear already I'm going to have a mounting issue. It came with a single corner mount kit, but no other wedge or flat mounting bracket like my older Ring Doorbell. I don't want the camera pointing at an angle and without any other mounting option, this is going to be tricky.I have a long-time gripe that Amazon Ring for not having a tall standoff mounting kit that is taller to allow the camera's view to get up and over a thick facade, such as molding or brick just right outside the door molding at the existing doorbell wiring. The new Ring Doorbell Pro 2 has a curved back that may make it easier to pull off a home without a proper mounting kit that allows for the device to sit recessed in.Ordering a flat mounting kit will need to be my next contemplation. That or wait for the community to 3D design a feasible taller standoff. Amazon needs to sell taller mounts and includes a flat-mount plate. On 4/4/2021, an Amazon Ring Security Team Advocate contacted me to help resolve my concerns. On 4/5/2021, with Ring's assistance, I will be alternating reverse stacking two wedge mounting brackets. The hope is to get some height on the Ring doorbell. Picture to soon follow.Side Note: I learned that (1) backing plate isn't required and the device is designed to be mounted with or without the included wedge mounting bracket. (2) the curved back design is to aid with cooling. Presumably because of the extra compact design. (3) I appreciate and learn the battery kit (included with my model) is installed in line with the indoor doorbell transformer and chime. Saving space and spreading out the components that may dissipate heat.On 4/15/2021, the Amazon Ring Security Team Advocate reshipped the delayed two-wedge kit. I also ended up receiving the first that same day and receiving the second the following day. Very proactive resolution. On 4/17/2021, I reread the new wedge mount and Ring Doorbell 2 Pro instructions, then began to install the alternating reverse stacking two wedge mounting brackets. The instructions anticipated only stacking wedge and corner kits. The wedge would typically be stacked first and the corner would be second. Because of this, there is a recessed hole on the top and bottom for the head of the second screw in the corner kit to make room for the device to be then placed in the larger recess space without the screws being in the way. This is not on the wedge. I had to double-tap through the main mounting hole to stack. This isn't usually advisable, because there wouldn't be room to place screw anchors or risk splitting a wood frame. This worked out in a way for me, because I have an aluminum frame around my door, so I didn't use the screw anchors. Before realizing this, I spent a great deal of time trying to figure out what screws would work better for my mount configuration because I didn't know none of the diagrams would work for not having a hole with a recessed space for the screw head.

Much improved since I tried the original model years ago.
When the doorbell first came out, I tried one. The wired version claimed to be able to ring your existing door chime. They even sent an electrician to my house to make it use that existing bell and he could not, so I returned it.I went with just an outdoor camera for a several years, but often it would not capture the person's face as it was mounted above the door and a crook would keep his head down. When I saw that this model Pro-2 stated that it absolutely WILL ring your existing door chime, I decided to give it a try.The installation was seamless. I already had the correct voltage doorbell transformer installed from the last try years ago. I also had purchased an expensive digital door chime years ago to go with the older model doorbell. The setup was the same and I had it connected in about 15 minutes. I was skeptical of course, but when I pressed the button the indoor chime began to sound and the bell worked flawlessly. The picture is very sharp. No matter how close the person stands to the door you can see them from head to toe. The picture popped up on my phone immediately when the doorbell began to ring - no lag at all like many other brands. (Now I do have 500 Mbps fiber optic Internet speed and the front door is only about 30 feet away from my router. Your Internet speed and wifi distance will make a difference).Setup was nothing. There is a QR code on the back of the doorbell so you just scan the code with your phone and it sets everything up for you automatically. I have the RING home security system and it installed the door bell and added it to my security system automatically as well in about a minute. Now the video from the doorbell is included in the videos from my other security cameras when I open the RING app for the home security system - as if by magic!I also purchased the Echo Show 5, 3rd generation. As soon as you hear the doorbell (or any other time you want) you say "Alexa show me the front door" and IMMEDIATELY there is the person ringing the bell. You can also talk to and listen to them reply if you desire.Sorry I had to wait 4 or 5 years for this doorbell to be improved to the level I needed, but I am really glad I decided to give it a try. It's more expensive than the base model, but it certainly is worth it for the bright colorful video and the amazing ease of installation and integration into my Ring home security system.

Great video Door Bell Supports 5GHZ Wifi
I have 2 Ring doorbells, a Doorbell 3 and a Pro 2. The version 3 was installed four years ago in Florida. After the first year, all of a sudden Doorbell 3 stopped working in the middle of summer - we were up north. I checked the device health and the battery had discharged to less than 5%. It did not work until the fall when we went back to Florida.I have an electrical engineering degree - so I know a little about electricity. The doorbell had been connected to the previous mechanical bell transformer which was 20 years old. So, I called Ring and fortunately they send me a replacement because the device was still under warranty. So, I replaced the old one with the new one. During the following summer months, same story - the battery discharged and never charged back. When we went back to Florida, I decided the replace the 20 year old transformer. Home Depot sells them for $20 bucks and they are Ring certified. It has been 2 years since and I have not had any issue with the battery discharging. However, the battery is now 4 years old and I will probably replace it - it costs $32.For the new Pro2 which I just installed in our house up-north, I actually ordered a new Ring transformer for $23 since the existing one is 30 years old. I installed the new transformer and the power-pack. We have a mechanical doorbell. I have not had any issues with the doorbell and everything works just fine. I like the Pro 2 much better than the 3 because it does not have any batteries. The Pro2 version has many nice features including a birds-eye view which shows the front door landing space in case someone drops a package. It also has a separate "package alert" which detects someone delivering a package from 30 feet away. Yesterday, I had a package delivery and sure thing, it sent me a text alert when the guy was 20 feet away. The installation and setup was easy and Pro 2 offers the usual features of a Version 3 and more. An important feature is that it supports 5GHZ wifi channel which obviously is a lot faster than 2.4GHZ for streaming videos. It also comes with Welcome message feature which warns people that they are being recorded when they approach the door and trigger motion detection. You can turn it on or off. During the setup, it asks if you want the Birds-Eye view feature and then shows an aerial Google map of your house and asks that you pin-point the exact location where the doorbell is installed. This is a great feature since it allows you to edit the motion detection zone aerially and have a very focused zone which does not necessarily have to be square. The one negative thing about Ring company is that they force you to purchase a separate "Basic Protection" plan at a cost ~ $45 a year for each camera if they are not installed in the same location. This is really bad business practice and Amazon/Ring should reconsider it. Lastly, I have had three encounters over the years with the Ring tech support and they have been excellent.

Annoying that I need to purchase a transformer despite researching beforehand
This is Ring's most expensive doorbell so I made sure before I purchased it to call Ring support and ask them about my mechanical chime. I actually found my exact model on Ring's website and it said it was compatible. However, once I received and installed the unit it tells me that it is "level 3 underpowered". I called tech support again and they are telling me that I need to purchase a new, more powerful transformer. Actually everything looks like it's working fine now but they said that it may fail. Very annoying because I have no idea where the transformer is located and I will probably have to hire an electrician to install this. I should also mention that initially the instructions said I would need to install a "power pack" which they included. This turned out to be wrong because, when installed, my mechanical chime did not work at all. After spending 2 hours troubleshooting I realized that by simply removing the power pack the mechanical chime started working. In essence, the power pack was superfluous? This whole process did not wind up as to be as simple as I thought it should be. Tech support at Ring is outsourced and useless. The reps don't understand anything other than going through the same algorithms that I could do myself. On two occasions they simply hung up when it reached a point where they couldn't answer the questions. They know next to nothing about the actual system and keep putting you on hold while they try to look up stuff. Their only response is that you need to go back to the website and buy more stuff ie: another power kit, a different transformer etc. Absolutely useless. When I asked to speak to a U.S based level 2 support agent they said that there was no such option. I'm thinking of just cutting my losses and sending the whole thing back.Addendum: About 10 days after purchase the mechanical doorbell simply stopped working. Everything else is working and the device health appears normal.Addendum #2: I am now raising it to 4 stars because I love my video door bell pro 2. It works great but there are some important caveats. Despite my mechanical chine being “ compatible” according to Ring’s website, it was not. So I had to install the Chime Pro because i want to hear my doorbell. Now it all works fine but it was an annoyance. Also, the “pro” part of the Chime Pro does not seem to work very well for me as a wifi extender. Doesn’t really affect me much because I have a mesh router. But as a chime replacement it’s perfect. Tech support is hit or miss and maybe not quite as dire as I thought. After placing a negative review I was contacted by a higher level rep who seemed to know more. Also the rep at the main number who helped me with the chime stuff was very good. In summary, their products are excellent, their tech support is hit or miss.

Don't be fooled by the others, and sites like WireCutter.
I had the original Ring Video Doorbell. It was good, got it in 2017, but over time, it just couldn't hold a charge, and I was not about to remove, charge, and put it back on my wall. I usually go to wirecutter for reviews, and they were over the moon for the Arlo Wired Doorbell, and I was kind of excited, because I could stop paying a fee for my doorbell, and I have arlo cameras inside, so now I would have one app to manage them all. I ordered the Arlo, as soon as I installed it I was getting notifications on my phone, it was working, soon after I finished installing it, no more notifications. Opened a case with Arlo, followed all the tips and advice, nothing. I even added family members via the invitation to the app, never worked. I waited, went to the forums, crickets. I returned it for the same one, figured I had a bugged Arlo unit, nope second one same thing, notifications as I am installing, after that nothing. So no notifications, and I cannot add family members, no go in my book, this is software, it's not hard. I looked at more reviews, media was not really recommending Ring, but on Amazon, the reviews were great for Ring. I went with this Ring Video Doorbell 2, ordered it, it arrived in hours. It came so soon, I decided to install it (at night). Set up was simple, as soon as I finished got notification. Set up my zones, the 360 view, etc. Thing works as expected. Very happy, and I learned they have an option that allows you to not pay the subscription fee, even better! I will most definitely be recommending this device for any home owner. Oh, and it connects to 2.4 or 5ghz wifi!!! Winning! Love this so far.

Easy Setup and Crystal-Clear Video — Works Exactly How It Should
This doorbell was super easy to install and set up. The hardware feels solid, and once it’s wired in, the unit sits flush against the house with a clean, modern look. The app walks you through everything step-by-step, and it connected right away with no issues. The video quality is sharp and clear — even at night — and the motion detection feels accurate without being overly sensitive. The chime and notifications come through fast, and the doorbell button has a firm, smooth press that feels high quality. The doorbell feels durable while providing security and peace of mind.Overall, it works exactly the way you want a wired doorbell to work. Simple setup, great picture, and very reliable.

ISSUES ISSUES AND MORE ISSUES
UPDATE JANUARY 26,2026:I have to say this ring device is the worst.. I bought the thing in Jan 2023 , had nothing but problems after abt 3 months. Finally dealt with support who were amazing at the time . After a few months of them monitoring this and doing that they finally said they will send me a new one. Let me just say also I had two ring doorbells , wired pro Best ones you could buy at the time , I decided to upgrade just the one to see if it was a worthy upgrade . Which absolutely was not lol. By the way the first one that I bought still is working perfect, the the o e I replaced worked perfect as well until I decided to “UPGRADE” lol all this was around when Amazon took over the ring so I assume there quality control from was no more..back to where I am today. Jan of 24 they sent me new ring doorbells, wired pro 2 same thing . Simple install / swap, they verified everything was great and working as was supposed to . Abt 3 months in stopped with video, app showed connected and working all in the green, still received alerts on my phone and all working there but no video , when you checked the app to playback it would say device is not connected , we did the usual remove device , unhook outside reconnect and set up as if new . And everything work again. Now today January 26 2026 , same story , no video, everything else working perfect but no video, app says maybe lost connected during video recording, but shows connected and perfect signal looking good. Alerts work everything works but video not being recorded. Tried the remove and reconnect like it was new device , same thing connects perfectly goes through all set up perfectly then no video, no live view nothing. I paid 150 back then with the trade in . 150 for nothing hit a head ache and issues for over 2 years lol. Looking at the new one now but now the same basic doorbell does nothing really new or better according to reviews but it’s 250. I always liked the ring when it worked but after this doorbell I will have to start looking at my options , and I pay for the monthly service only because they force you to pay for it if you want to be able to turn the devices on and off. If you do t pay monthly you can’t turn the devices off . That part they force on you, and it wasn’t always like that , you used to be able to have access to the basic on and off. The monthly pay used to be just for recording and cloud storage but I guess they weren’t making enough money so they decided to strong arm its customers.. it is winter where I live right now, temps been in the single digits to 18 degrees maybe this newer ring can’t handle the temps, the original still works fine and going strong on my back door , both devices in an open porch . . THINK TWICE AND LOOK AT YOUR OPTIONS BEFORE PURCHASING .UPDATE AT END: March 11,2024:I had the regular ring pro, actually have 2 of them. I upgraded to this pro 2 which was done big upgrade. Jumped on a Black Friday deal that made it end up being $120. I will say the camera is nice only con I see on that part is it’s like a fish bowl view where the regular pro version gives you wide angle view , you will not get that on the new one. Takes a little getting used to. As other reviews have mentioned you will need to pay for the contract for any type of recording where as before you did not need to. My only issue is , I goes off non stop saying motion has been detected no matter how u adjust the setting, my older ring pro rarely went off falsely where this one constantly goes off falsely , so I turned on the detect person only feature , worked for abt 3 weeks and I was like ok cool. Then all of the sudden I get the alarms someone was detected , but no one there, windy day it detects a person non stop . It def doesn’t pick person from a bush blowing slightly. I still have a second ring pro that I will def not ever upgrade lol. I don’t know if something is def so I send a repair, I have just received a new one today 1/17/24 and will see if this is any better , if not I will def go back to the ring pro version not the pro 2 . If you purchase make sure you set it up and allow yourself time to return just in case you have issues, and who knows maybe it’s just def. I do love the ring products and have them all around my house with no issues , it was just this doorbell . I also have cameras around my house that monitor everything . So anytime it goes off I double check my cameras now to see if it was false or legit. Like I said I hooked the new o e up today and will cross my fingers . I will update shortly and see what the outcome is
