Enlightening and Compelling
This is one of the most complete and clearly written texts that explain in easily understandable language, how America has come to be today. It forces the reader to reckon with the realities of what Americans of different cultures and races contended with upon arrival to these shores and still contend with in many cases. I wish this had been required reading when I was in school. This book does not leave big black holes of our history (good, bad, and ugly) out as if they didn't happen. If you want to know the whole story, this is a must read.

Required reading for a healing nation!
I was so impressed with the scope of racism in a country which was supposedly founded as a safe-haven for the persecuted. I know that slavery was a deeply shameful and damaging part of our history. I was not aware of how consistent we, as a nation, have continued to hold minorities of all kinds in less-than esteem. Mr. Morse's documentation of the odious and selfish practice is not only commendable, it is necessary reading if we, as a nation, are to heal and, more importantly, keep this from ever happening again!

Needs fact checking
I picked this book up on an impulse as I’m passionate about history and looking to learn more about the topic but it contains information that's been debunked years ago. It’s as if the author didn’t even do the research. It seems he just cherry picked information, threw a book together to make a quick buck and called it a day.The author conveniently leaves out critical information in an apparent attempt to hide key items that might serve to counter his arguments and I find it interesting that almost all of the authors citations are extremely left leaning sources. The author of this book didn't even attempt to balance his book with rebuttals or other possibilities for interpretation. For example, he talks about presidential executive orders and doesn’t even include them in his works cited. It seems as though he simply cherry picked the data to support his already biased perspective in the hopes of sounding off in his echo chamber and/or displaying his wokeness for all to see.If you want to read another regurgitation of the main talking points from the leftist race baiting ideology then this is the book for you. If you're looking for a history book, it would be best to skip it.

A Must Read!
David Morse's "An American Legacy: Racism, Nativism, and White Supremacy" is a captivating narrative that provides a comprehensive and unvarnished look at the history and the consequences of racial attitudes that have permeated our country. Morse provides powerful insights and keen observations, mining our history and peppering his narrative with interesting anecdotes that challenge common knowledge such as: "the first European settlement in what is now the United States of America was not in Jamestown, as most of us have been taught, but Puerto Rico, in 1505." In 2020 we can take solace in very few things, but David does provide what I would consider more than a glimmer of hope in his view of where we are going. But you'll have to buy the book to find out!

Difficult but Important Reading about Racism
Aristotle said, “knowing yourself is the beginning of all wisdom.” We Americans have, for too long, refused to look into the mirror with regards to racism and race relations. But now is the time.David Morse's book, "An American Legacy: Racism, Nativism, and White Supremacy," does exactly that.As a historian, he dissects the difficult history of white supremacy in the USA, citing a variety of examples over the decades and centuries for each ethnic group. However painful to read, the book provides poignant lessons. And that is why we study history, so that we don't repeat the same mistakes again.

A great read!
To understand the current state of racial relations in the era of Trump, it is important to understand how we got here. An American Legacy: Racism, Nativism and White Supremacy does just that. Its an informative, readable and entertaining take on this long journey through the history of racial relations in the U.S.The author, David Morse, historian, multicultural intelligence expert and host of the “Race Talk” podcast, has a unique experience and perspective that he leverages to provide this historical fact-based narrative. I would recommend this book to those interested in increasing their historical knowledge and perspective. A great read!
