One of the best written books on parrots in general
I've read quite a few parrot books, many of which are quite valuable with information, while some just stick to basics. And Eclectus parrot apparently has some different needs than other parrots, which I honestly didn't know until I read this book. Very well written, concise and to the point, and thankfully keeps your interest, instead of just boring details. As I am adopting an Eclectus now, I am very thankful that I found this book, and read it through. In fact, I read it through twice, just to make sure I got everything straight, and will continue to go back for reference.

Good for beginners but lacks detail
I loved the fact that this book touches many aspects of owning a parrot. The thing I was disappointed with was the lack of detailed information. I am new to the Eclectus but I have ample experience in general parrot care. If you are seeking specific and detailed Eclectus information like I was, then this book may be light reading or a refresher course for you. But considering the absence of many books on Eclectus, this is a happy encounter for me nevertheless.

After loosing my much loved white capped Pionus I couldn't get another as she was so dear to me, so a change of breed was needed. This gave me a vast amount of information and my baby Eclectus ERIC is doing very well as I type, with him trying to add his bit as well.

Has Roger got his parrot anatomy upside down ????
So far am a little unimpressed to find the author including in the reference terms a description of the choanal papillae being spikes in front of the cloaca when they are actually spikes in the mouth which line the choanal slit. As the look of these structures are a clear indication of the state of the Eclectus parrots health I think it is important to instruct the beginner as to the correct end of the body to inspect!!! Perhaps Mr Rodendale's knowledge of parrot anatomy is a "little" hazy!!!

This book is a waste. Save your money.
This book reads as if it were an animal report written by a grade 5 student. Much of the information is purely anecdotal, and the references list at the end shows how poor the research is. It’s clear the author has no personal experience with eclectus parrots, nor likely with any parrots.Save your money. Don’t buy this book. Get the Barron guide to eclectus parrots instead (by Katy McElroy). The quality of information is much better and she clearly has more personal experience with eclectus and other parrots.
