Mumbling Beauty Louise Bourgeois

Louise B looks so vulnerable and old but beautiful in this book. Some pictures are a little disturbing because her face is all deformed (on purpose). Nice writings about photographer and how he met Louise and started a friendship.Nice if you love Louise as I do. Some pics made me sad :(

Shame about this book, the blurb made it look very interesting - artist in studio stuff - reliable publisher (usually) and a wonderful subject in Louise Bourgeois who's work I have followed since long before she became flavour of the month or whatever, but what this book actually comes across as is a rather unpleasant invasion of privacy by a greedy or misguided photographer. Out of a whole book of glossy photo's of course there are a few interesting ones but many I cannot see the point of silly 'effects' used to no end that I could percieve except trying to cover lack of any real creative purpose. A great shame that someone obviously talked her into this ill-advised venture and I doubt that it would have come out if she was still alive. The dangers of book buying via the internet.... if I'd seen it in a shop first I'd have just put it back on the shelf - Thames and Hudson are usually a good bet with the exception of the first edition of Andrew Graham Dixon's book on Howard Hodgkin (the later editions have the advantage of more reproductions even though the text remains ridiculous) and now this book ---big shame ---- Try and get to see it in the flesh first if possible although it will make you feel like a nosey parker - Others of course may think it wonderful which would be rather upsetting.
