Amazing product!
Used this product on a set of white painted nightstands. They were already rough (intentionally) and had a hand hewn look which I loved. I just wanted them to look like stained wood. Was afraid stripping the paint would take away most of the rustic look so I opted to give this product a try. It was very easy to apply-I used the dark wood. Used an old scrub brush to create graining after each coat. Used a gel stain-applied with a cloth and again used the scrub brush for more texture. Only one coat of stain was needed. Applied a matte poly and they look great. Side note-stain application was darker on one so I just recovered with the product and restained and it worked beautifully. Won’t hesitate to use again.

Pricey but worth it!
I use this on anything I want to look like wood. Usually requires 2 coats for full coverage and I can get 2 projects done with 1 jar. I’ve used all types of stain with it and have gotten excellent results. It dries with a light textured feel similar to bare wood. There isn’t a strong smell. I’d say it’s worth the price.

Utterly Unusable. Solid mass of wood fiber in watery paint.
I was so so excited to finally try this paint but this review Would be zero stars if that was an option. The lid was nearly impossible to remove and cracked when we finally got it loose. The entire container was unusable because the wood fiber had solidified and was surrounded by murky tan watery liquid. I even attempted to stir it up hoping it would integrate back in but no luck. It completely solid. I’m going to order directly from the site in hopes that the product isn’t old/expired. Will not order from this seller again on Amazon again.

Product works well & is easy to use
I was concerned with negative reviews about receiving leaking jars, but mine came packaged very well. The jar was sealed in plastic and in a box with inner cardboard to prevent sliding. The instructions say two coats. Absolutely do two coats. Do three if you have enough left over. I used a paint brush and made sure the finishing brush strokes were straight. I didn’t use a wood grain tool because I wanted a smoother finish instead of rustic. I used a water based, fast dry stain on top and my fireplace mantel turned out lovely. I would use this product again and again.

So good!
The packaging on this was great… the lid even had backup seals. The paint had settled to the bottom naturally so I mixed it well and the consistency worked out great. I started painting my kitchen cabinets and it had been a great experience. I used a stain over it and my kitchen looks so different. I do recommend this!!! I bought the big gallon and a little goes a long way!

Works great with stains
Love it!! I used this as the base coat and then used walnut/American walnut miniwax stain. Used faux wood tools I also bought on amazon.

Love it!
I love this product! So easy, painted over my Very dark, scratched up bedroom set and totally transformed the look. It fills in the scratches. I didn’t sand, strip…just wiped down all the pieces really well. It does smell but it isn’t Horrible and I felt like it dissipated nicely. Make sure to stir it well. I love this stuff!!!

Dark blend has a peachy undertone that is not easily covered
The liquid wood in the dark blend has a peachy undertone that is not easily covered. Created a beautiful faux wood look over laminate covered particle board...but...this dark wood stain has a heavy peach undertone. I used three coats of Retique It to cover a particle board trim that is covered with laminate. On the third coat I created the wood grain. That wood grain looks amazing, but I cannot get rid of the peach no matter what color stain I apply. I am attempting to produce a dark-wood-stained look using Varathane's Kona tint. The manufacturer recommends the Varathane (non-penetrating) oil-based stain to go over the Retique It base. I bought the Varathane in the Kona which looks amazing on natural wood, but it looks horrid over the Retique It. All this peachy color comes through and I can't even get the Varathane Kona Gel to cover it. It's awful. I have this beautiful faux wood grain that feels like wood, but nothing I'm using is masking that ugly peach. I could try to go with the Light (Beechwood) Retique It, but at these prices, I'm not sure about throwing more money at this product. I could end up with a worse result and another jar of latex paint I can't use on anything. Retique It produces a nice base coat, nice wood texture, and the graining looks great, but that peach is ugly and impossible to cover. Pics below: the first two are pics of the Varathane Oil-based Wood Stain in Kona. The third is the result of the Varathane Gel Stain in Kona. At this point I am unable to eliminate the peachy undertone. Not sure how to proceed?
