This is the best stuff ever for dandruff, psoriasis, eczema, etc. Same formula my grandpa used to use 50 years ago. A simple product, been around for decades, still works amazingly, and it is tried and true. I am sensitive to a lot of products, but not this one! It does have a unique odor. I personally like it because it reminds me of grandpa. Most people don't mind it and it does fade when hair is dry. However, some people can't stand it, so buy small sample first!

Takes care of itchy scalp, used this for years

I used Nutrogena's coal tar shampoo for years, it was the best of all the dandruff shampoos for keeping me flake-free. Local stores stopped carrying it, so I came to Amazon and found this. It works just as well for my scalp. There's no amount of perfume or other scent they could put in this stuff to hide the coal tar smell. This shampoo doesn't smell any worse than the major brand. I have no problem with the odor, which is gone before my hair has dried. Perhaps if I were to put on a motorcycle or football helmet right after showering, it would bother me, but for my everyday activities, it is fine. It's gotten a lot cheaper than it was last winter when I bought this, which I'm happy about.

Helps with Psoriasis, goes on much easier than the liquid medicine I'm given which is hard to cover the scalp with. It smells, like med shampoos do, and tastes bad too [note to self - keep mouth tightly closed when using]. Use a good conditioner, and you're all set!

Great source for this product. Comes quickly. Frequently not available in local drug stores and more costly there.

It's honestly an okay product, but not great in my opinion. The smell isn't all that bad to me (maybe because I actually kind of like smokey scents) so that aspect is tolerable, but it didn't really do much for my scalp besides maybe reduce itchiness a slight bit. If you suffer from intense itchiness and scalp issues (like psoriasis), I'd recommend going with sulfur soap. That has worked absolute wonders for my scalp, but the downside there is, of course, the smell. The reason I'm giving this 3 stars is because when I bought it the price was okay and unlike regular shampoo it didn't irritate my scalp and alleviated my dandruff a little. Also I liked that the consistency is thick and it lathers pretty well.

I have been using this shampoo for years, and it keeps my hair and scalp flake-free. It is not harsh like some of these dandruff control shampoos.
