German Panzers 1914–18 (New Vanguard)

Short, detailed, to the point.
German Panzers from 1914 to 1918 seem to have all the bad luck in the world. First, they were never a high priority. The reasons are many. The Germans were not really impressed by the Allied tanks - they could be stopped by artillery fire and also the Allies did not really use them in mass attacks, as they should be used, till the last years of the war. So tank development and production started later than the Allies. And while the Allies made thousands, the Germans made 20 tanks. True, the Germans captured and used Allied tanks but they never really understood the need for speed. The World War One Tanks were heavy, slow, with a huge crew - they needed men to help the tanks get over trenches. In some ways, this would effect their thinking during World War Two, where the Panzer I and Panzer II were light tanks mass produced. In other words, they tried to make heavy tanks in World War One but decided that they just could not make enough numbers to have any use on the battlefield. The book covers development, production, and their use on the battlefield - major encounters, victories, and, mostly, defeats.I would suggest getting either German tanks of World War II: The complete illustrated history of German armoured fighting vehicles, 1926-1945 or German Tanks of World War Two in Action if you wanted to continue the history of German Panzer development and history.

Thorough A7V study for all level of WWI enthusiasts.
This book covers the German A7V tank of the first World War thoroughly both with photos and text. Plenty of color paintings that show the camouflage schemes used as well as very detailed illustration showing the A7V with a cut away. This book covers the very beginning of German AFV program to its dismantling by the Entente at the end of WWI. For modelers or enthusiasts of early German tanks this book will almost certainly provide you with some pretty complete information as well photographs that are hard to find on the internet.

A good, although brief, resource.
In interesting, if brief, overview on WWI German armour use. The A7V images and information were an invaluable source for one of my drawings.

German Panzers 1914-18
Goed boekwerkje dat zowel de techniek als de ambivalente houding tegenover de eerste Panzer in Duitse dienst toont inclusief de monsterlijke K-wagen en de lichte LK-serie.

Great value for money
Another top class book from Osprey, this one really delivers with photographs of the vehicles involved, cutaways and original paintings. The A7V is perhaps the most mysterious tank of the First World War, as there is so much conflicting information on it. Different authors give different accounts of the structure, armaments and even colour schemes, but this book seems to resolve all.The text is spot on and the photographs clear and concise, including several I hadn't seen before. All in all a very good book for historians and modellers alike.Highly recommended

A useful adjunct for the military minded and military modeller
This book is a typically well thought out presentation by Osprey Publishing that gives the reader an insight into the German Military thinking of the time, and how interference and partisanship within the hierarchy resulted in the unwieldy tank ultimately produced. The photographs and illustrations, especially the colour plates, are very helpful to the military modeller. Definitely well up to the standard expected of Osprey.
