great cover for the knife but... extremely unsafe to use.
it isn't easy to put onto the knife. The design is a giant clam clip and not a sheath per se. You can't slide it in at one end because of the pinching, if you try you run the risk of the knife popping out and slicing your hand open with the amount of pressure needed to slide it in. Inserting from the top is far safer but still dangerous as the clip is very tight and the "sheath" is very narrow so it easily wobbles as you apply pressure to insert the knife; you again can cut your hand while trying to keep it stable. I HIGHLY recommend using a tri-folded bar towel to hold on to the clip-sheath while inserting the knife at the tip. while using the tip like a hinge, lower the blade into the clip as you go down the slot. once inserted the knife is very secure. I recommend using a bar towel to remove the knife as well. I like the stability and how stiff the clip-sheath is, but I am honestly not kidding at how dangerous it is to sheath that knife. Needs better engineering to be safer

Mercer > Cangshan/Dexter/Mundial/Everpride
These are dramatically different and much better than Cangshan/Dexter/Mundial/Everpride knife guards. The latter weakly grips your knives and easily slide all off. Having owned Cangshan, Dexter, Mundial, and Everpride guards before there is nothing different between them. They are all generic. Yes, Mercer guards are slightly more expensive but that premium is well worth it. As for the felt lining, your knives don't care much about that and Mercer guards have a very similar feel putting the knife into the guard. Highly recommended. For those with Misen knives, the chef's knife, serrated (bread) knife, and paring knife all fit well into these guards.

Excellent knife
I have a lot of knives, most of which are top of the line cutlery. Bought this knife after Americas Test Kitchen reviewed it and gave it a top review. It is amazing. Incredibly sharp, easy to handle, cuts through the toughest bread like butter. Bought the "sleeve" to protect it in my knife drawer; fits like a glove. Can't believe a knife this inexpensive can be so GREAT.

Too tight a fit for my Victorinox chef's knife
Seems durable but I found it impossible to use. It was too tight a fit for my Victorinox chef's knife. I almost cut myself trying to force the knife blade into the guard and gave up trying as it seemed too dangerous to continue. Maybe someone who has used this successfully can explain if there's a special trick to inserting the blade safely and I might try it once again before pitching it.

Poor design
I read the reviews of the very sharp Mercer bread knife and thought I need a sheath partly because I thought the 10 inch blade with handle would not fit in my knife drawer with knife block. I was wrong. It fits fine, so I don't need the knife guard, but I attempted to try it out anyway and found it very difficult to fit the blade into it. The fits is too tight and quite difficult to fit the bread knife blade in. Ironically, I fear cutting myself while struggling to fit the blade into the guard. I can't use this. Of course, the original packaging was necessarily damaged in opening the product so I can't return it. I own other knife guards for other brands of knives and none are difficult to use.

The perfect edge guard for any chef knife!
This is a great product with a perfect design. It fits almost any size knife. The knife slides in and out from the top so that it doesn't dull the knife from pulling it in and out of a sheath. It fits all my 8 inch chef knives and it can fit shorter blades as well. It doesn't matter if the blade is thick or thin or long or short; it still fits. It is easy to use and easy to remove the knife quickly without dulling it. It is the best design! I use them on for all my important knives to protect them and to keep myself from being accidentally cut. I highly recommend this product?

Use with caution
*update after talking to Mercer’s customer service department: I still stand by that this product can be dangerous. Mercer did point out to me that there is a safety video on this Amazon page (although it’s way down on the page) and the box is supposed to have a picture on the front demonstrating how I safely use it. I pointed out to Mercer (and they seemed receptive of feedback), that a simple, removable sticker on the product itself instructing/warning which way to use it would be effective in preventing injury.I recently suffered an injury while using the Mercer Culinary Knife Guard. I was putting my brisket knife into my new knife guard when I suddenly sustained a long, deep cut to the pad of my thumb. I looked down and was shocked to see the knife sheath is completely open on one side.I had to rush to urgent care to get the wound cleaned and repaired by a doctor. I was fortunate to only have a $250 medical bill.I’ve never heard of a sheath having an open end, and there wasn’t any kind of warning on the product. This is a huge safety risk. I went back to the Amazon reviews, and saw several other people saying how dangerous this product can be. I refunded the product and sent it back to Amazon.

One Star
Hell no! This thing immediately left plastic residue or some sort of plastic dust on my brand new bread knife! I shouldn't have to pre-clean a knife before using it. After cleaning that stuff off I can see where some of the surface got nicked. Hopefully I can buff that out.

No protection from abrasion
The main problem with these knife covers is getting the blade back out, you have to really pull at it which a) is dangerous and b) causes abrasion to the blade. For me, not fit for purpose.

no good for my knives
Ordered these knife sleeves measurement my knifes these came very quickly very well made and sturdy but unfortunately they were no good for my kitchen devils as the pictures show some of the knife blade is not covered.

Fits nicely
I bought the 10 x 2 for my 10" Mercer bread knife. The guard fits really well and comes off just right not too easily that it falls off but not so tight as to be a problem. I guess when you have the knife the guard is designed for, you shouldn't have a problem. I am well satisfied.

Excellent fit
Bought this as going on holiday to a self catering cottage and all holiday cottages seem to have rubbish food prep knives so wanted to take my own. This fits perfectly to the knife I ordered it for, snug and grips well enough to not be dislodged in transit.

Might be bigger than you think
Much bigger than I thought it would be. My mistake not always greats when it comes to cm.Anyway it did not fit either of the 2 knives recently ordered. However does fit an older big knife we have so have used it for that.
