Merriam-Webster M-W Chinese-English Dictionary

Very Basic Dictionary. Word reference than explaining the words and functions of the words. Not what I expected. Would much more recommend the "Langenscheidt Pocket Dictionary Mandarin Chinese - Chinese - English". Absolutely leaves the Merriam Webster for dead in all areas. Even a far better quality and explanations for a Traveler. The Merriam Dictionary that I received had pages cut short with parts of the letters or words missing due to the printer cutting the pages incorrectly. So a little disappointed and wouldn't recommend this make of Dictionary (Merriam Webster Chinese English) to future buyers wanting to learn a language, there are far better publications to be looked seriously at.

Lightweight, easy to use. Perfect for a school bag. I use this to translate some english that I do not understand.

I find the Merriam-Webster’s Chinese-English Dictionary to be a reliable dictionary. It contains many examples despite its compact size. Bigger dictionaries will obviously offer more entries and examples but this dictionary answers most of my language needs. It provides good explanations on the language and sheds light on some of the grammar aspects. Definitions are clearly delineated under entries with several meanings or usages. I would recommend it up to a solid intermediate level. To revise characters and learn some others, this dictionary is enough but you will assuredly need a bigger one to build a stronger vocabulary or deal with Mandarin at an upper level. I use it alternatively with the Collins dictionary.
