Q: Could this work at all as a low budget copper plate etching press?

Personally I don’t think so. You would need a significant amount of pressure for etchings so unless you think you can physically apply that pressure then I wouldn’t recommend this for etchings. It works really well for smaller monotype prints

Q: Has anyone tried the press with an etching on plexiglass or the Akua printmaking plates?

ןI tried it only with block print working with 30 kids it worked fine never tried it on eching

Hi Maricela, I use the press for mono and relief printing, but as far as I am aware the press is designed for mono and relief printing only because of the pressure required for etchings etc. Akua have a web-site which may be helpful. Check out Youtube as well.
