The package was delivered overnight, but the contents appeared to have been a return. I contacted the seller and they arranged a replacement shipment. In the mean time I tried out the radios and, while some of the firmware limitations imposed by the FCC type acceptance as interpreted by Baofeng make it somewhat difficult to use, it worked fine for my use. This is certainly a great deal, two complete radio sets for less than $40, so if you understand the limitations and how to work with them, this is a great set to use. Update 14 Aug 2025: I have found the workaround for the radio firmware limitation not allowing GMRS channels to have their DCS/CTCSS codes set from the keypad, like you might have to in the field and away from a computer. One is not allowed to set the codes when in CHANNEL mode, but you can in VFO mode. So, determine the frequency needed for the GMRS channel you want (use the preprogrammed and unmodifiable GMRS frequencies in channels 1 to 22 as a guide). Enter VFO mode. Enter your desired frequency at the keypad. Enter the MENU mode and set your transmit and/or receive DCS or CTCSS codes. Then use the MENU option to store the setup in a channel number above 30. Exit MENU. Switch to CHANNEL mode. Select the channel you just programmed and you're done. You can't name the channels from the keypad, but later you can download the memory with CHIRP or DCS, add a textual name, then reupload to the radio. I wish it were easier than this, but this will work in a pinch. I have been using the radios almost weekly since I got them, interoperating with other brand radios, and they work great. I replaced the supplied antenna with shorter ones since those are easier to carry and range really isn't an issue for where I use them. I have had zero issues. The batteries fully charged are good for 8 to 10 hours of operation with moderate transmit and receive use. I even use the the supplied earpieces which appear insubstantial but they work fine for casual use and still allow full hearing of the outside world. This set is a real bargain.

This is about the handiest Baofeng unit that I have found. It will be especially of interest to GMRS enthusiasts and airsofters due to it being programmed for all GMRS channels, AND their repeaters. It also has all the NOAA channels for weather as well as being able to scan and pick up FM radios stations. It's probably THE best emergency radio available short of going HAM. You get 2 UV-5G (UV-5X) radios, 2 chargers, their antennas and the earpieces for quiet work. They also come with some charge on the batteries but be advised that you will need to fully charge them. Display is good as is sound and even when you add the plug in mics that you can get for them. Price point is exceptional and I have bought 2 sets and may get more. Remember the rule: 3 is 2, 2 is 1 and 1 is none.

These are simple, and truthfully for gmrs function I like these better than the gm-5rh I also ordered and reviewed, only thing keeping this from 5 stars is the fact it can only charge from the desktop charger. It does not have the fancy screen of the newer models, but is simpler to use, good sound quality,and the battery lasts a long time. Do not expect the leatest greatest gmrs radio with this, the design is over a decade old, but for someone just wanting a simpler radio that works this does work. Is it the greatest? Well no but for the price it is a great introduction into the gmrs world that does not break the bank. One feature I like is the fm radio tuner, I tend to use it as a portable radio at work because it runs a long time and clips on my belt, and has good enough volume and sound quality for a portable music station.

This is one of the best GMRS you’ll get. Easy to program and easy to use. Perfect for snow skiing . Just remember to get your license!

Works well

Being able to reach each other when we're outdoors riding atvs or camping fishing etc is important to us & once we got our gsmr license these have been just what we wanted. They came with 2 batteries an ear piece speaker & mike for hands free use. They are smaller than the last radios we had & we like that. They can also be used for a scanner for emergency channels & weather they charge fast & the battery lasts a few hours. They were very affordable. Our family like them a lot & we use them 5 or more days a week. Ptt button is easy to use which is great for me as I have problems with the use of my hands. I'm very happy with then.

I am impressed by the quality of the radios for the price paid. The plastic housings are more durable than those of similar products in this price range. A test call from the end of a mile walk (probably less than one mile as the crow flies) went well, and that was using the shorter antenna. The instruction manual leaves something to be desired, as some of the features are complex, and the manual doesn't elaborate on how to use them. All in all, I am satisfied with my purchase.
