Q: Would this item work for my 26x26x32?

Should, it is way big on my 30 by 30.

Q: Is there any extra give for a higher unit - i measure mine from cement to top grill at 36? Thanks

There is no "stretch" but it will cover 34" of the unit and I find the drawstring seals and holds the cover in place. As long as all vent openings are covered I don't think it is critical to have 100% of the unit covered.
