Got this to replace the capacitors in my retro consoles. It's so much faster and easier than using braid/wick, it has basically paid for itself. The power cable is the same as a PC so I can plug it directly into the AU power socket without an adapter. Only thing is the gun holder and sponge holder are are kinda dodgy but all in all it performs well.

I have been really, really impressed with this desoldering station. It heats up quickly, it has great suction and is easy to take apart and clean. Out of the box, I was up and running in less than a couple of minutes and removing components like a champion. Is this essential? No, not really. You can obviously remove components by adding fresh solder and using a soldering iron. You can also use desoldering braid. However, the desoldering station is so ridiculously easy to use and very effective, that it gets the job done much, much quicker. My use case was for recapping old Amigas & general PCB repair, so on a day-to-day basis I'm not removing components all that often. However, the time saved and the neatness of the removal is worth its weight in gold. I would recommend this to any electronics tinkerer. You won't be disappointed.

It does its job well enough. It has decent suction and the tip seems to have a pretty god thermal mass - enough to desolder pretty big joints. But you have to take care to make sure the solder doesn't build up at the opening of the solder container or the barrel will jam. If this happens I found that heating the unit up to close to max temperature makes it easier to clean the barrel with one of the cleaning sticks that comes with the device. It's a cheap device, but it works a lot better than my previous tool that cost as much, but got blocked all the time and was a huge hazzle to clean. The biggest drawback otherwise is that the unit has a cooling fan that runs at all time when its turned own which is surprisingly loud. I might replace it with a more quiet one in the future. Nonetheless it's probably one of the best desoldering stations you can get in the budget segment. Anything cheaper will likely be next to useless and anything better will probably cost you several times more.
