Fantastic, Powerful, Easy to use, Modern
Updated on 9/28/16I would like to add that I've tried to use the webcam and it is quite bad quality. I still like the power of this computer but it sucks that I can't use it to create videos for my website and YouTube channel.Updated on 9/11/16Originally, I gave this review 5 stars, as you can see below. I am removing a star because the graphics/screen is pretty low quality. I have a horizontal line across my screen, and movies/TV aren't nearly as sharp as they are on other devices. Not the end of the world for me, but pretty close. I use this for graphic editing for my business and I like seeing movies as sharply as possible. Not delighted. Otherwise, what I wrote in July remains true.7/7/16I just received my laptop yesterday so I can't promise I'll never update this review, but I've already used it for a number of applications - online and offline - and so far, I am SO PLEASED!My biggest priorities when looking for a laptop were: fast, powerful, easy to use, Windows 10.Here is a breakdown of the factors that are important to me, what I got and what I didn't:First, what I did not get: a touch screen, a flip notebookWhat I got: I wanted powerful so I made sure to get Intel core i7 and it is definitely doing it's job! No breakdowns, no freezes, no drivers resetting (like my last computer, the reason I got a new one)Lots of space: 8 GB of RAM so it has plenty of room to do everything I want at once, 1 TB of hard drive space. I'm not filling that up anytime soon! Especially since I use an external hard drive for pictures (safer that way).Windows 10: So easy to use. Windows 10 is a classic Microsoft operating system that is USER FRIENDLY and efficient. You can get anything done, connect to One Drive right within the File Explorer (you have to have a One Drive account to use online storage space), and it is all so clear, modern, and fast.I wanted fast: I got medium-fast. It isn't a super speedy computer but that kind of makes me believe it is good enough to be true :) Still does a job, I don't have to wait more than a second for say, a file to open. It take less than a minute to turn on and get to log in.I wanted external space: There are 3 USB drives - 2 on the left side and 1 on the right, there is room for an SD memory card (possibly also for macro/XD, haven't tried). I had no problem attaching an external hard drive, charging my Bluetooth speaker, and copying pictures from a memory card. There is a jack, I assume for Ethernet, as well as some other things I don't use... but it is all available!I wanted updated self-installing drives: I inserted a Bluetooth mouse and an external hard drive and both were instantly usable. I did not have to wait for the computer to download drives, install programs, etc. That was a HUGE unexpected plus!I have not yet used the disc drive but I have all the reason to believe it will run smoothly and not corrupt the system. This laptop is sleek. It isn't a laptop but it's not heavy at all, easily carry-able. Another plus is that the charger is thin, wiry, with only a small adapter. No clunky wires you can't hold. The keyboard is great. It isn't a plastic piece stuck on - each button is separate, they are high enough to make you feel like you're touching something, they have a light feel. So easy to use and responsive.I must have left something out but my summary is clear: this computer is well worth the money. I'm glad I bought it.If I feel any differently in the future, I will update my review. In the meantime, this laptop gets 5 stars. If you feel my review was helpful, please let me know below. Feel free to ask any questions or comment!

Great Laptop for Programming
I received this laptop yesterday evening, so today is my first day of using it. So far, I am impressed. I decided to name her Ember.PROS:1. To begin with, Ember is a speed demon. She's very fast, and that is great since I just took up programming and the like (think C#, Unity, ASP.NET, front-end applications with HTML 5 and CSS3, JavaScript and jQuery, Bootstrap, etc.). My IDE (integrated development environment) is Visual Studio, and everything start-ups in less than a second, not to mention that app load-up times is less than 2 seconds.2. Ember is also great at multitasking. I've had a previous Asus (don't remember the edition or model) and even a 2015 MacBook Air, but they fall short when it comes to running several programs and applications. So far I've been able to run a full scan with Windows Defender, download Microsoft Office 2016, download Visual Studio Code and Visual Studio Community Edition 2015, browse my emails, and listen to music all at once with no slow down in speed whatsoever.3. The keyboard is great for men with big hands. I'm a big guy, and this keyboarding and the spacing between characters is awesome.4. The black design on the outside is nice. All the attention and focus is drawn to the Asus logo, and it gives off a very light black glossy finish.5. Downloads download very very fast.CONS:1. The touch pad is somewhat unresponsive. Granted, it's only been a day, and maybe I need more time to break Ember in, but so far I've had to press down somewhat hard on the touch pad for it to register my motions.2. The front-facing camera looks ugly. I'm not sure how to explain it, but the front-facing camera that one would use to Skype looks like an indented circular hole. It really does take away from the beautiful display because it's easy to shift your attention to the camera since it's just above the screen. If anything, this would be the biggest con, and if Asus is able to somehow rectify this to make it more aesthetically pleasing while meeting the same performance standards as Ember, then they would have a winner.3. Ember is somewhat heavy. Now, this isn't really a con since laptops this size - 15.6 inch - are going to be heavy given their components. Still, it does make a difference walking around with her in my laptop bag. Nothing major at all, but the MacBook Air puts her to shame.4. Ember's charger is very bulky. This is another big drawback for me. I actually like my last charger for my 2012 Asus better. The main problem with the charger is that it takes up a lot of space, and there's really no easy way to wrap up the cord with the charger if I needed too.5. The DVD loader is very flimsy. If I really wanted to, I can press the eject button to open the DVD loader and then rip it off. It wouldn't be much of a struggle, and even though it's not a big deal to me since I don't use DVD's, this can be a problem for people that do.OVERALL:In all, Ember has been treating me very well thus far. I plan on updating this review once I really get her revved up, but in the meantime, I am very pleased with her. I also like her a lot more than Carla (my MacBook Air), so the relationship is already off to a great start.
