The Flexible Golf Swing: A Cutting-Edge Guide to Improving Flexibility and Mastering Golf's True Fundamentals

Insightful, but not for everyone.
Frederick's book begins with endorsements/testimonials made by several of golf's all time greats, including Nicklaus, Palmer, and Player. The author writes in a clear and straightforward style, with frequent photo illustrations. Content wise the book is five stars, grounded in the sciences of anatomy and physiology. Any experienced golfer who is motivated to improve will find useful insights. The shortcomings, while not major, are three. (1) Frederick ignores the irremediable disabilities that senior golfers, especially super senior golfers, face. Among these are so-called degenerative disk disease, arthritic issues in the hands, fingers, shoulders, hips and back, and degradation of the cartilage and bones comprising joints such as the hips and shoulders. These disabilities limit the utility of many of the author's recommendations for strengthening and stretching. (2) The author assumes that readers have the experience that allows them to grasp and then utilize the information he presents. A beginner will find that the book is "Greek to me." A golfer who comes to the book with extensive playing experience, including face-to-face lessons with a PGA instructor (and thus some understanding of his or her own swing), is the ideal reader. (3) While Frederick's basic approach is grounded in science, he riddles the book with his own metaphysical presumptions.

Game Changer
This book has been a game changer for me. Although the flexibility stretches take time to take effect, after 5 months of daily stretching per Mr. Frederick’s instruction, I’m hitting the ball like never before. My iron shots are straight, long and consistent, and the confidence I now have with my golf game is at an all time high. I now feel so much more balance over the ball during my entire swing. I feel as though I have control over the game versus the other way around. His DVD program is also outstanding. I highly recommend his Secrets to Golf Swing Flexibility DVD. The DVD’s Gold Tee program is top notch. Not only will it improve your golf game, but it will take away the aches and pains we all experience as we age. My favorite stretch is a static stretch call the Sitting Wall. I do it every day for 5 minutes and my posture and overall well being has improved immensely. My sincere thanks to Mr. Fredericks for his extensive knowledge and research in helping to improve the overall health of not only golfers but anyone who is looking to improve their quality of life.

The key to maintaining your swing in middle age.
I am a single digit handicapper, but since hitting 50, I have started to lose distance in my golf game. I soon realized that it was 'old age creep' and loss of flexibility. "Gasp!" Watch most older men hit the ball. They are stiff as boards and lunge rather than swing. After fighting this for a year, I started stretching. I bought Fredericks' DVD. This book is the companion to that DVD. Either will suffice. I kind of like the book better because it is easier to reference when you want to go back and look at a particular exercise. It is amazing just how stiff you can become in middle age, while trying to earn a living. After beginning a mild stretching program, I have added 10+ yards to my drive and a good 5 yards to each iron. I also am hitting the ball more solidly with less effort. A bigger turn and looser arms will just generate more clubhead speed. I still am not that flexible and look forward to continuing to improve. Actually, I am playing the best golf of my life. I hated that I was moving forward a tee box, now I am back where I want to be.

A Golf Book Ahead of Its Time!
One of my favorite golf books of any type. Roger Fredericks is the real deal. He knows the game of golf. He knows the body and how it works, and how many people can teach golf and say that so much depends on swinging into difficult positions. The tour pros and great golfers ypu know can do what is necessary to hit the ball well. You can't. Why not? You are not wired like pros. They are gifted and have bodies that respond to what their minds tell it. If you work regularly on Roger's exercise program, you will get closer to achieving a pro-like swing. If you avoid these exercises, you will NEVER hit a ball the way a pro does. It won't happen. Get flexible; get sound fundamentals, all in this book by an honest teacher. One of the best out there. A long life to Roger Fredericks! And to the appeal of his great book that is decades ahead of its time.

LOTS OF EXERCISES FOR A BAD BACK
This is one of the best bad back stretching books that I have found so far. The best things about is are the pictures of the stretches being performed and a very complete description of how to perform them. Well worth the expense.I have found that it is a lot easier to perform all the exercises for bad backs at a gym so that you actually do them with regularity. No stretching is going to help much if only done occasionally, but if you perform them regularly and then are strapped for time by an early Tee Time, having performed the stretches in the past regularly will accelerate the few stretches which you need to do on-site at the golf course.

Swing Easy
A very useful book with all kinds of good information about how our bodies change due to lifestyle and age, plus many, many stretching exercises that can counter-act those changes to benefit our golf games and life in general. Good photos and instructions. Exercises are tied to specific swing faults or grouped in various programs. It's helping already! One criticism: the programs are individual stretches with no separate instructions. Until you know them, you have to look each one up from all over the book. The page numbers are tiny white numbers in black circles; very hard to read and search on. Making cheat sheets.

Very Informative
This book contains a wealth of information ranging from golf drills to a wide range of exercises to improve flexibility. The benefits of improving flexibility are explained in great detail and there are even test exercises to help identify your individual problem areas. I am only starting on the exercises so it is too early for me to comment on any improvement and they could be quite time consuming. However the book explains how you can tailor various exercises to suit your own needs.
