Based soley on the television series - No comparison to Ian Falconer's books
These books are NOT the actual Olivia books written and illustrated by Ian Falconer. The book is based off the television series. The pages are your average, everyday color illustrations and storylines taken from the episodes. Though the stories are cute they are a far cry in comparison to Ian Falconer's Olivia books. I made the mistake of ordering all the Olivia books I could find for my daughter and these by other authors were not as "loved" as the original Olivia books.I am a huge fan of the storylines and illustrations in the real Olivia books. I would recommend the Ian Falconer Olivia books. My daughter has all of them and years later all are still being cherished and regularly read. Love the morals and illustrations of this sweet little book
I'm a big Olivia fan but have never seen the TV show. I'm 32, and am suspicious the TV show might involve squeaky voices or something. So I'm pleased to see this spinoff of books from the TV show.I really enjoyed this one a lot. It seemed like a really good lesson about how everyone's family is different, and we should just take joy in what our own family is like, as well as enjoying how different it is to go to a friend's house.I particularly loved the illustrations of them slurping spaghetti towards the end! That was too cute.If you're biding time till the next real Olivia book by Falconer, then this one might be a fun one to hold you over.

We Love Olivia!
I have a little boy, he is two and Olivia is his favorite. We watch the cartoon, and have just started collecting the books. This book is based on one of his favorite episodes. Olivia, a little 6 year old piglet goes to her friend's (rival's?) house for dinner. Hilarity with brussel sprouts ensues. This book has much in common with the cartoon episode. The same bright, vibrant colors that my little boy loves, the same friendly characters and the same fun dialogue.Needless to say, we have read this book many times and will continue to do so. Olivia is a treat for little ones!

Just Like the Episode
This book is just like the "Olivia is Invited to Dinner" episode. My daughter has the Olivia the Pig Action Figures - Mom, Dad, Olivia, Ian and William and loves to act out each pages with her figures as we read.

Who can complain?
Sure, it's not a hard bound library edition, but for five bucks, this book is just fine. If you like Olivia (of course you do), add this one to your collection, or give as a gift (as I did...it was very well received).

bento box, table manners and spaghetti slurping
Another fantastic Olivia story. Whilst I prefer the orignal Falconer to the Cartoon spin offs, the quality of these books is surprisingly good. It is based on one of the TV cartoon episodes but they have condensed the full cartoon down into a short story book that is full off Olivia's usual quirkyness, sophistication and determination. In this story, Olivia and the ever-suffering Julian are in awe of Francine's new lunch box even though not all its contents are desirable. Olivia is invited to dinner at Francine's house and Olivia's preparation for this grand occasion are well considered and in this instance, appropriate.Olivia's superb day dreams add the usual fantasy element to the story. Ultimately, Olivia realises that although her family meals may not be the most refined, they are fun, tasty and welcoming. There lots of hidden messages in this book and it meets all my criteria for a good kids bedtime read:1. new vocabulary2. great pictures3. adult enjoyment4. re-readability (almost every night)5. lots of things to talk about once read. This is an American edition so there is the odd Americanism but nothing that bothers me.Our copy is quickly getting worn out - can we have it as a board book? It is jolly good value so may have to invest in another copy soon.

fantastic
Olivia is an awesome character. My daughter (4) loves her. This is the storyline of one of her favorite episodes, and as we have people over for dinner very often and we live in Italy, she's very familiar with the spaghetti + company for dinner/lunch scenario and there's lots to talk about ;)

If your children like the TV programme it is a good way to encourage reading
Bought this book as not only does my daughter enjoy the TV programme but she also is called Olivia! Definitely encouraged her to read so at a low price a good purchase.
